I'd say Archer (which then becomes Bard). You're very mobile and can do decent damage.

A lot of the fighting in FFXIV requires you to move around and dodge telegraphed things, so a class that can keep attacking even while running around is nice while getting the feel for stuff.

But that's me.

You can be all classes on one character, so don't be afraid to try different stuff and see if you like it, though!

I would caution against playing a tank (Gladiator/Paladin, Maurauder/Warrior, Dark Knight, Gunbreaker) because while it's not particularly hard, it can be anxiety-inducing. Tanks are often expected to set the pace of the dungeons.

So you can switch pretty easily?

Absolutely easily. Once you get to level 10 in your first class, it'll unlock being able to go get every class.

And switching is just a matter of changing your weapon and equipment.

I would 100% just pick a DPS and rock it. Archer is very easy indeed.

Back in wow I definitely preferred ranged options.

might enjoy red mage too when you unlock it, it's pretty mobile

Dancer's another one that's straightforward to play and mobile and fun! Though that's also later and with expansions, too.

Lancer/Dragoon

that's your job

also dragoon 50 unlocks some alternate dialogue in Heavensward

that being said, you can change jobs at any time

so if you're not feeling a thing, you can always change

Ooh, yeah, Lancer/Dragoon is also lots of fun.

I also played through originally as White Mage. DPSing could be slow as heck but I had heals so I never died.

also you can't start as rogue/ninja, but you can unlock it almost immediately

it's just simply not coded as "Starting"

on the whole DPS is less stressful than tank or healer since healers have to keep an eye on their party

and tanks have to manage Afro
