Someone on the apartment below me is chiseling up their floor with some kind of power tool. It's making my room shake and has spooked the hell out of my cat.

Apparently it should be over in about half an hour.
Unfortunately, I have no way of conveying this information to Aster.
Attempts to cuddle him have been fiercely resisted.
He is mostly coping by trying to murder my laundry. Very cautiously, of course, in case it bites him.
oh baby... :< God, that sucks in all ways.
Yeah. The noise has mostly died down (there was some hammering for a while), but he's still jumping at his own shadow.
He's never gotten like this about fireworks or thunderstorms, so I don't know the best way to help him feel safe again.
Keep to your normal schedule, doing the things you normally do. He'll explore and worry and you'll show by example that it's okay.
Thank you, that makes sense. I guess I should be sleeping, then.
cat's like schedules. they like routines. if something gets off schedule they get nervous. (hashtag relatable)
Sleeping sounds like a good idea. Be prepared for him to wake you up sometimes fussing.
