usually op will say which side means yes which means no

so you can play the (y/n) game with it

for example

OP: is the bottle empty? (p means yes, otherwise it's no)

Player:

so the bottle is empty

and this
usually it's use on a open answer, if player's has same color as the op, than that one will be picked.
ex:

op: there are a animal in the box, but which one?

player 1: cat
player 2og
player 3: kangaroo

so player 1 has the same color as op, and being the first one to have that color out of the others

if no one have the same color as op, then, keep answering untill it happens

there are also some dices you can use when you can't decide to do something or not.
