God the rose is so appropriate, my thought was like - and this was geared toward an ending of him not being able to save it - he was maintaining some spark or memory of gilead using his own life force which was turning him into a monster (a REAL one, not a buff furry, like physically hollowing him out) so the end point would be when he ran out of ka
