I'm afraid of having strong opinions about Star Wars
i want people to have opinions
opinions are good even if i don't agree w them
what about having mild feelings about star wars
alright, thoughts later because it's dinnertime
quick take: rogue one remains the best star wars film of the decade
rogue one is quality, agreed
i agree re: rogue one and i am definitely not biased
rogue one is the best, you are all correct
i call them like i see them
l saw all the recent sw films except solo iirc real early for the Express purpose of defending myself lol
You are not wrong about Rogue One.
gasp is it your birthday now
Okay so now this becomes my discussion plurk even though I don't actually have strong opinions
I'm definitely the kind of person who enjoyed TLJ more but this was fine, I didn't hate Reylo as much as I would have expected going into it, the actors are all likable, can't really fault them for Leia's strange & truncated role
it did and does feel like a pastiche of previous star wars tropes rather than something brave and new, but I guess a pastiche of star wars tropes is a fine brainless entertainment experience
I do think like, Palpatine being resurrected (why?? how??) was… I mean I'm not questioning it because I get it, Palpatine is always the third act surprise villain in these trilogies
But indeed, how can you feel you've defeated this empire ever when it always comes back with the same space nazi aesthetic secretly run by the same evil dead dude
I suppose the eternal conflict/balance of sith vs jedi says something about how there will always be good and evil in the world, but does evil always need to be an empire and does good always need to be scrappy rebels in this universe??
Also I am deeply curious about the economics of a death star
Since the operating storytelling mechanic in star wars seems to be, "build more death stars" it's gotten to the point where I question how they are paying for this
one death star?? sure, okay
an entire parkinglot full of death stars?? that was apparently built by the dead emperor in secret?? where are the tax dollars for that??
i got the impression that the last order fleet was just like...magic zombie ships somehow
I liked Force-sensitive Finn and also the group of former Stormtroopers he got to meet, though knowing all Stormtroopers are brainwashed kidnapped children who can be redeemed does kindof pose moral questions that are unanswered by the franchise's continued casual Stormtrooper murder
they were at least all manned by magic zombies, if the ships themselves weren't also built with zombie magic
Poe continues to be very attractive
Well the commandship was full of actual people and I didn't think conjuration was a school of magic allowed by the jedi class
personally i've always kinda felt that question's been lingering at least since finn's introduction
admiral pryde mostly looked like a normal person, but then he was on the phone with the emperor and you saw that he was secretly a magic zombie
and I liked that the movie explored the idea a bit more but also it totally avoided exploring that idea a bit more
so i assumed the rest were the same
man I must have missed that… the fact that all of the ships were all linked together in a single design flaw speaks both to the empire's engineering prowess and the magic zombie thing
that's at least how i took it, given his makeup for that scene
sheev just seemed like he was having a big ol necromantic time
OH I also liked that Lando was back
I feel like all the stormtrooper killing is at least mostly justified? They can be redeemed, sure, but on the other hand apart from some isolated groups all of them are currently trying very hard to kill you and aren't interested in having a conversation about ethics and morality.
it's not so much that you can't kill the stormtroopers, its that their deaths are still treated as like, a comedic beat when they fly off and explode
