kind of mixed feelings on this— macchio is someone who has written natasha before, but that was in like, 1978
as someone who actually loves the 1970s as an era for Natasha and would probably embrace more of those character elements coming back to the forefront (i.e. less weird brainwashing, more confidence and melodrama) I also am like, what??
also, I recognize I am one of three people who love the 1970s as an era for Natasha, so
I mean, it might be nice to get some more Natasha who has like... fun. Sometimes.
The 70s were an amazing era for Nat. I loved reading those when they came out.
basically it makes sense if they're trying to put a bunch of stuff out for the movie, but it's bad if they aren't also trying to give her an ongoing with a more relevant creative team. (though who does marvel have now that's relevant besides hickman?)
as a Natasha fan I demand the same sort of comics push that Scott Lang got
I want sarcastic, funny, kick ass Nat back.
With a touch of 90's Nat who could intimidate Baron Zemo with a look and nothing else.
Baron Zemo would really make a good Natasha adversary and I'm kinda sad that it hasn't been done much. But we'll get Taskmaster at some point and that's also something with a lot of potential.
I for one also want more 70s Nat content
she was pretty sarcastic in today's avengers issue:
...I know that's Nat, but all I can think is "Why does her armor look like a Spaceknight?"
I've liked some of her Marvel stuff but was pretty lukewarm on her Natasha characterization, so, could go either way here.
adam hughes is terrible and his cover for this is terrible but it's the least important thing
it's like, adam hughes, but he's clearly been told not to make it too cheesecakey, but it's adam hughes
so why even bother?? what is the point??
boots, not form-fitting booties, you fool
im happy that its not jsc at least
you can tell he wants to do a plunging neckline but has been told not to
i saw that and yelled!!!!
yeah that's way more exciting
Grayson's take on Alexi was positive but also she obviously wasn't writing him so
that adam hughes cover is awful
still, devin grayson invented the red room and her version of it was my fav
it's weird, it's even bad for adam hughes
like for all that I'm pretty over pin-up covers as a way to sell female-led series, adam hughes can at least do nice pin-up covers
often with elements of graphical interest
this is just… super phoned in
generally thompson says all the right things, I just am skeptical about her ability to pull it off
marvel really needs to get more than one lady writer at a time imo

(I know they have had more writing the mutants & minis & things but it always feels that they have one big Woman Writer who they then burn out)
that's a nice, approachable style for this kind of book
jordie bellaire on colors so that will look nice
a female artist team is more important to me than a female writer, at least for natasha so that's cool
Michelle Bandini also seems good especially for this tier of project
