When a cheese is described as "tangy" what is the taste or mouth feel it's trying to express?

My reference material translates it as spicy and I feel that can't be right

I'm translating a tray of fine cheeses for wine and cheese pairings and there's champagne on there

"tangy" cheese to me means a something more like aged blue or feta cheese... so just about opposite of, for example, fresh mozzarella.

perhaps an especially sharp cheddar?

"tangy", to me, is more similar to "sour" than "spicy" - but it's more of.. almost a degree of flavor, I think? like, fruit can be tangy. strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit... but it's not exactly tangy if it's very ripe, so that it's merely sweet and loses that sharper edge to its flavor.

barbecue sauce and wine can be tangy. some breads are kinda tangy. I could see some cheeses described as tangy, sure... (thinking)

Looking it up, the only cheese I can find described as 'tangy' are Manchego and Provolone

...tart. I think tart was the synonym for "tangy" I was looking for? but with milder connotations, normally.
