Writing fanfiction every now and then is fun, but the times it doesn't get comments or many kudos, I fall into an existential crisis. I have this gen WIP that has my most subscriptions yet NOT A SINGLE OLD READER comments when I update, so I feel like crap because idk if it sucks
I know it might be laziness or karma because I don't comment on fics enough either, but it. hurts??
Video games are fun too but when I suck at one and it's a rough day, it does the opposite of catharsis. I avoid Souls-like stuff and play easy mode because of that
How about non-competitive catharsis type video games?
that's already what I play but sometimes I still get stuck
non-competitive, I mean. I'm not into farming games
I uninstall Stardew after one afternoon since I was getting bored or frustrated
I was thinking of hobbies besides consuming media. I mean, not reading/watching TV/watching movies/listening to music
the problem is, I'm bad at everything handicraft and not persistent. so shit like knitting and crochet have been an attempt in my teen years but... doesn't stick
I'm not good at drawing either
maybe music? maybe a bit of keyboard?
I mean I know I am only doing shit that involves validation from the outside that I know I am actually ... good at. So I guess I am guilty of that too.
I am honestly ... out of suggestions. I am so sorry. All of my hobbies are either handywork related or media related I guess
creative hobbies... music, photography, translation? original writing?
im sure there are entire fuckin lists of creative hobbies on google
i will say there's absolutely no reason you'd have to be good at drawing to do it or find it fun, and lots of different ways to draw or otherwise Make Art, so you don't have to write that off either
I have no talent with my hands
maybe I could try painting and drawing, but I know me sucking will discourage me even if I keep it to myself
I could try to follow Bob Ross and Shirasaki-san's painting tutorials, they look chill
photography overwhelms me and I'd need a better camera/phone. and it would summon my brother who would never shut up lol
translations... I'm only fluent in two languages. gotta find something to translate that's not being translated by someone else, too. also, that feels like homework tbh
original writing is a dream of mine but my characters still need a better plot. and me sitting down to write. if I can't sit down and write fanfic consistently, original fic stands no chance. press F for my OCs
oh man! maybe perler bead art!
Now I'm a bit curious about your ocs but also I feel you about writing original fics (about fanfic too). Also, bead art sounds nice... and that one is an interesting hobby list.
omg!! i'll read them as soon as i finish my breakfast
most of my ideas don't really fit what you want but I think music could work, yeah
There should be classes you can take without buying an instrument, I took keyboard classes for years before I decided to get one
we had a keyboard! but it was large and it was sent to the basement. I think mom was going to give it to a friend but idk if he took it in the end
oooh that might be even better then, if you still have it
I'm getting a bit excited about bead art since it needs no talent or patient, just the specific supplies and an iron
I never tried that one but it looks fun
even if we don't have a keyboard I could download a piano app?
I haven't done any for a while but I like bead art, it's kinda zenlike putting the beads on and seeing the picture build up
I am only fluent in two languages too so I feel you on this
I love translation ... but it's not like there's anything meaningful I could translate
yeah... there are a lot of translators online doing cool shit
UPDATE: I did download a couple of piano apps on my tablet and I had a fun time
I'm still baby and messing up easy mode songs but it's perfectly fine. you start somewhere
one of them is a paid app but it has some free lessons which I'm going to do so it can teach me basic music reading shit like "look, the C is here, and this is D"
the other has the typical rhythm games where you follow premade songs, but it also has a freestyle mode which is what I wanted. I wanted a little keyboard to play
I remembered and almost played Yesterday by the Beatles which is one of the ones I played in baby mode on our old keyboard of my childhood
