... if they donāt have laundry, and if their job doesnāt pay well. Weāve been blessed. Definitely not rolling in cash, but things are ok. How the f do you pay for $60 laundry on a minimum wage?
These are the things I think about but havenāt expressed publicly before. Why now? Because something clicked. It only gets better by saying something, voting, working towards the world we want.
I want a better baseline for everyone. A personās background, ethnicity, race, sexuality, age, occupation, income, gender, place of birth, religion, or any other personally identifying characteristics should not rule them out from a solid baseline and a chance at a good life. I truly believe in this and think that by raising the baseline we will...
... create a better, happier, safer, more creative world. I recently was listening to a podcast and the guest said that a person is either in survival mode or creative mode. There are many talented and creative people out there unable to contribute their best lifeās work because theyāre too busy suviving. Letās give them a chance to contribute in the ways...
... they are best at. This will advance society in ways we cannot quite be sure about, although the outlook is good. We finally have the technology and information to provide all that is needed for everyone, in excess. So might as well give it a go.
Our apartment has coin op washer and dryer. They are older models so not the best and some of my things sometimes get ruined. Itās 1.25 to wash and another 1.25 to dry. If I want to wash just my bedding itās at least $5. Then add in towels so another $2.50. Thatās not including clothes! The only way I manage is to not wash things like bedding and towels
Itās worse in the winter since clothes are bulkier.
What on earth are you washing, that it is $60? it costs $1.25 to $1.50 per wash and dry, so you are talking $2.50 to $3.00 a load. I cannot even imagine having to do more then 10 loads for 2 people. I run the wash weekly and its usually a half load at that, and I would not even run 12 in a month if that.
SparkleSkye: Itās between $6.75 and $8 a load to wash and $2 to dry and we have multiple loads a week.
StormyWilde: Ugh Iām sorry to hear that. That really sucks!
Itās again, one of those things where sometimes the gratitude isnāt there until you lose that thing or amenity, and you realize how good it is. This experience has been eye opening.
I have never seen prices like that at a laundymat, thats crazy
what part of the country are you in that can charge that?
My laundromat has three different washers. Normal sized loads, triple loads and two huge ones that can do 5 loads at once. I think the 5 load one is close to $10 just to wash
Probably super expensive because they arenāt very common. Live in the PNW too and I think I could count on one hand the the number of laundromats Iāve seen around.
damn, time to open a laundymat, and charge less, you would still make out
At that price a wash and fold might actually be cheaper
SparkleSkye: definitely isnāt where I live. Itās way more even with my own time saving factored in.
Yeah we have 3 laundromats within walking distance of my place. The farthest being a 15 minute walk
yeah our laundromat isn't that much woah
been in the same situation for 5 weeks. New washer comes Saturday
bunbunsie: thatās the west coast for ya š¤·š»āāļø
Find a family or friend to laundry with for a week
oh I meant to ask you , how did the microblading hold up?
those are high prices for a laundromat, itās not even that expensive in LA. i probably spent about $20 each trip when iād go there. you might already know this, but sometimes itās cheaper if you avoid the fancy new high capacity machines and spread your clothes out into several of the old, cheaper ones. those new machines are insanely priced.
i always used the old, basic machines. it definitely takes longer and sometimes you have to wait for a free machine, but when youāre super broke like i was, itās worth it
wow. yeah. I used a laundromat when I lived in San Francisco, and didn't pay anything near that. I mean it was awhile ago, but I can't imagine it's gone up that much. Even the fancier high capacity machines weren't anywhere near that expensive.
We had to use the laundromat for a bit becasue our rental didn't have one. We dropped on average $40 each time, it suckkkkeeedd.
and Barb is right, when we were in LA it was cheaper. I had to deal with the crackhead hitting me up for coins regularly, but that was part of the whole experience. LOL
Sienia: and imagine having to every week and what a stress that would be. Ugh.
It so is! We did it for a few years and it was a huge expense. We save so much money now that we don't have to do it, plus the hours you waste sitting there.
