ive never heard of this pls explain
and who would like to be??
oh man alex always brings the good drama
okay so Taza/Naomi Davis of the blog "love taza" (it's Italian for cup) is the queen of the nyc mormon mommy blog mafia
IS THIS A THING? I guess it's a thing, because she literally expelled another blogger from the cool kid clique to the degree that she couldn't go to temple anymore
....NYC Mormon mommy blog mafia is surely a phrase
i have never heard of this before this very second and i must know everything
lmao yeah i was reading about that this morning
no influencer like a mormon influencer
"our littles, eleanor, samson, and conrad"
well since then she's also had twins
so now she has five kids and she's living in this small upper east side apartment with a husband who wears bowties
ngl, my first thought was 'otherwise known as 'hell'
so!! she has made a brand living in "this little city of ours" with her tiny ones, except, wait, you're supposed to shelter in place in nyc!! and that's hard!!
love these moments when I realize that people out there are living intense, "high"-stakes lives that are completely incomprehensible to me
so uh on friday, right before an explicit no-travel order was issued, this lady
rents an RV, stuffs her kids and husband into it, and gets her pro-photographer upstairs neighbor to take a cute pic of them leaving in the middle of the night
they're going on a road trip!! to utah!!
anyway at first she was deleting all the negative comments but I guess there are too many of them right now
there's a buzzfeed article by their writer on the mormon mommyblog beat
I am sure she was planning on sharing Cute Road Trip Content but what if she can't now?? It's tragic.
as someone in upstate new york the number of people coming and fleeing here from nyc is driving me ABSOLUTELY INSANE stay the fuck home
but this taza lady good LORDT
apparently they're setting up border checkpoints looking for rich people fleeing to florida
florida isn't going to be much better pretty soon
anyway, I hope this has brought you all a new rabbit hole to fall into
don't leave new york city
trendy tourist counties in idaho and utah have some of the highest per capita infection rates, probably because of rich people fleeing from california & washington.
to florida?? at least NY's governor is trying
when they made the movie "escape from new york" i don't think this is what they had in mind
what is there to do in florida tho all the parks are closed
oh man now i wanna watch escape from new york
and it's hot... why would you go where its hot...
she basically just put herself on blast as like a walking viral vector waiting to happen
and also, the dumbest fucking thing I've heard, outside of everything Florida's currently doing
ohmygodbees: my parents are just kind of sitting there like "..."
i told you not to retire to fucking florida
well, this lady is going to Utah, not Florida, but there's another influencer who is fleeing to FL right now
someone snuck their infected patient into one of her clinics for a CT-scan in an effort to disprove that he had coronavirus
which means that everyone in that office was just exposed
no one is taking it seriously
i don't even have the words for this
it's foolish to think that there is a place to flee to
yes, you can't outrun a virus
my guess is they were going to florida bc they had houses in florida
yeah, Florida has a problem because rich people buy vacation homes in Florida. Same with the Hamptons/ski places, everywhere like that.
And running to them can be really problematic because 1) you are spreading disease by traveling and 2) these communities do not have hospitals equipped to handle an influx of people, like
it's not the motherfucking flu
IF IT WERE THE FLU WE COULD CONTAIN IT
AND WHIP UP A VACCINE FOR IT
this was a fun spiral to read
semicolons please keep yourself safe from mommy bloggers
the thing is influenza is deadly and the reason we don't think that is bc we have flu shots
well and like, the hospitals there are equipped to deal with busted knees
they're real good at that
don't worry i haven't left the house since i had anesthesia
I hope y'all are doing safe as best you can.
it's so wildly priviledged to "flee" your city because you're worried about touching a dirty door knob, like girl wash your hands
I mean my sister and her bf went to their parents houses before the shelter in place order bc they have to take an elevator to get to their building and they were worried about standing close to other people??? but yeah the time for that is over
1) not at all surprised to hear a mormon mommy mafia. it's actually very cut throat in that community, especially of you're trying to raise in ranks. I had a boss that was trying very hard to become a bishop and whoo
2) my "this virus thing is blown out of proportion" mom is in for a ride awakening when Idaho is filled with infected rich people lol
if i had five kids in a nyc apartment i might be tempted myself
because that has to be a little slice of hell
yeah, but is a cross country trek in an RV with 5 kids better?
like there was plenty of time in ny between 'restaurants and bars must be at half capacity' and shelter in place to leave in a responsible way
you can stop at rest areas and let the little heathens run around...but yeah i wouldn't have gotten to five kids to begin with so the thought processes here are foreign to me
I was one of four and my parent swould never do a road trip longer than 4-5 hours lmao
also they moved out of our condo in the city before trying for a third (and getting twins)
that's assuming rest areas aren't full of infected fleeing people or haven't been contaminated by fleeing people
can't imagine the government is keeping up on cleaning all of those every day
i sincerely doubt she has any serious understanding of transmission
that's the problem like it's one thing to drive your car from one contained area to another but a ROAD TRIP
you can't safely drive from ny to fucking UTAH
most rest areas are closed tbh
(my mom had to go from NC to MD for specialist appts a few weeks ago)
(my home state has rest areas where they put the state liquor stores and they'd keep those open even if an asteroid struck, so the idea of them being closed blows my mind)
....god, state liquor stores
I was talking in another plurk the other day about the wide variety of liquor purchasing rules in the US because 50 little fiefdoms
in IL where I went to college (and turned 21) you can get beer/wine/liquor at the supermarket; in MD where I grew up you gotta go to a specialty store for anything because blue laws
which I didn't know because I was 18 when I left MD for college, so at one point I was home after I turned 21 and Mom said we needed wine and I was like OK, I'll go to Giant. "Why?" For wine? "...you can't get wine at Giant." WTF?
CA has liquor in grocery stores, and WA does now too, but OR does not
nj's rest areas are open /just adding to the informal survey of this information
i think because people need to be able to stop their cars/get gas/etc?
our liquor stores are also essential
we also still can't pump our own gas, tho
that awkward moment on the jersey turnpike when you forget it's the jersey turnpike, get out to pump your gas, and the attendant sighs heavily
see also everyone coming from vancouver to portland
trying to take advantage of oregon's lack of sales tax
I'm following the latest chapter of author anti-piracy drama in which authors have been called cops and ideas landlords because they (surprise) would like book piracy sites to take their books down
even ignoring the irresponsibility of her actions, the thought alone they thought traveling across almost the whole country in an rv with 5 kids would somehow be...simpler...is so idiotic
like that rv in the photo is TINY, it's about as big as the trailer i had as a kid, it had small bunk bed for 2 kids and a sofa that folded out for 2 adults
like the only thing worse than being trapped in my apartment with five kids is being trapped in a car on the road with five kids
yeah and rvs like that are NOT smooth riding
and if those twins are still babies, fuck
instant regret for them, i'm sure
like, and travel is stressful??? in the middle of a pandemic????

at least this idiot family sprung for a big one
Ski resorts in Austria, Italy and apparently the US now have been huge in spreading this. It's the rich vacationers who are carrying it around.
spring breakers are the real problem
that would actually explain why there's been so few cases here, rich people don't visit Western Illinois lmao
our campus extended spring break to two weeks and sent everyone they could home literally because we all knew spring breakers would be a problem
we did not want students who travelled coming back to class in person, so online it is
yeah my alma mater also extended a few weeks and said "and btw online"
yeah, I know when I went to college I went home during Spring Break, and home for me is a center of this outbreak
yeah same I mean, my alma mater is 12mi out of downtown Chicago and also the demographics mean a lot of kids went somewhere fancy for spring break
at least they let the kids who didn't have somewhere to go (or would've had to go overseas) stay in dorms instead of kicking them out like usual
my sisters stayed in their apartment in la and now they're kind of stuck
like their lease is up in may??
another tale of audacious influencer behavior
here
oh god are they really traveling with babies
did this lady fake coronavirus, or is she just the most irresponsible person on earth
just heard the charming anecdote recently that when i was born, by parents were DETERMINED that i wouldn't ruin their traveling lifestyle, so they packed up all the baby stuff and determinedly went to the beach
and then they never traveled again.
they're still at that beach
i feel a little terrible for this but i guess in the spirit of this plurk, it's a silver lining to see rich successful people having to deal with a hazard for once
it gives me the pleasure smile
they're largely not very good at it
I'm not even an "eat the rich" kinda person but I do think social distancing depends on everyone doing their best, and so people who flagrantly ignore public protocols deserve public mocking
a. i love you for bringing us this drama and b. why are rich white women like this??????
there's a weird like, mommy privilege these white ladies invoke
like if they're doing it because it's "what's best for their children" it can't be selfish
but, in fact, other people have children, too
it's the same logic that anti-vaxxers have, they're doing what is best for their families, if someone else gets the measles well too bad
and they tend to be the same type of women, college educated white women with money
yep, anti-vaxxers is exactly where my mind went
imagine being so self-centered and oblivious you didn't realize the backlash you'd catch for this
I think it's interesting because it's clearly really class/race privilege but they express it as "being a tiger mama" or whatever
I'm wondering if this lady actually… faked a COVID-19 diagnosis for social media sympathy and then just still wanted to go to the Hamptons and post content as though that never happened?
I strongly suspect that's what happened
it sounds like what she really got was a flu test
i don't even think the covid tests have that quick a turnaround
re: other influencer: por que no los dos?
she... she faked having covid for attention, what the actual fuck
honestly I suspect the dads are worse and we just don't hear about it bc of media bias
but I have heard from people who had been sick and got better and were never tested
just like 'yeah I probably had it'
oh yeah, that's not weird.
this person like, specifically filmed herself "getting tested" though
it's also v weird a doctor would just....run out and test a patient in the middle of this esp if they weren't a close relative
also v weird to call in favors from doctor friends while they are so busy
yeah that's why i don't believe she had it
like you could ask them to put a rush order on your test but that's it
which idek if hospitals are doing that rn
I think I could understand going outside to do the test if the hospital is full of virus, but why… film yourself getting tested? and yeah, this was at the time when tests were super hard to find.
honestly this seems like a bad combination of anxiety and entitlement
but also stay the fuck home
not defending her just trying to parse this
laughs at the painting bc its me, im in the catskills, wishing rich nyc people would stay home
lmao photoshop a cassian icon on there
anyway meanwhile closer to (my) home
turns out oregon coast straight-up kicked the tourists out
“I think that the public health officials, of course, say shelter in place, but what they’re not taking into consideration are all those situations like mine,” she added
someone in the cape started a petition to close the bridge that's how annoyed they are with tourists and summer residents
they've infected mass' little islands too so trying to escape did not work, they took it with them
every time you link a new influencer thing im like ZOOMS TO READ
hahah this is more a reflection on the phenomenon itself but I guess Arielle apologized for her Covid positive journey
ᚠᚱᛖᛃᚨ
5 years ago @Edit 5 years ago
this one is basically "it's OK to call influencers out"
that was a good article yes
but yeah I figure I will keep my INFLUENCERS IN THE TIME OF COVID-19 links to this plurk though hopefully they've all been properly shamed now
I guess I haven't talked about Home Edit lady and her cross-country RV trip
me, not even reading the article yet, I sure hope so
things have definitely taken a turn against aspirational living
but otoh they aren't losing insta followers
hmmm so this is having consequences… you don't say??
I just read somewhere that they had to dye the blue lagoon black to keep tourists away
