been waiting to hear back about my unemployment benefits and finally got letter today from the MD dept of labor... congratulating me on obtaining new employment. yes, MDOL, i definitely got hired during a pandemic that i was laid off because of
i'm fucking livid, because i filled out everything online to the letter and i know my boss sent in her paperwork because i didn't want to deal with the calling backlog. but now i have to call them monday to fix this
i don't understand where the fuck they got this information and i'm so fucking angry right now.
i haven't been able to pay rent, my car insurance is coming up due, i missed a loan payment, and i've been updating this information every single week so i'm livid that this mistake even exists
i got laid off on the 20th ffs and i haven't gotten a single payment and their telling me in the letter i might owe them back pay. for getting a job that doesn't exist from the money they haven't given me yet. yeah that totally tracks.
i'm so upset. they're saying the national directory of new hires notified them that i got a job while i was filing for unemployment and i just don't understand where they could have gotten that information
they suspended the requirement to job search while receiving unemployment during the pandemic so it's not like i've been shadily sending out job applications or something
i don't know if monday is a federal holiday or not and now i'm going to be so stressed the next day or two until i can fix this. and i'm worried i won't even be able to get through calling because i keep hearing horror stories about people having to call unemployment hundreds of times in one sitting to get through to someone
sorry about the venting everyone. i'm freaked out and it's just been a rough day anyway so this is just like. the cherry on the poop sundae
You've done nothing wrong. This is your space to vent and to talk about the things in your life. You are understandably frustrated and understandably worried and it's okay to be both and it's okay to say that you're both.
This is your space and we're here to support you, to listen, or to offer whatever advice we can, or whatever you need. This is your space. Use it how you want to use it and we will be here.

thank you
i'm not in any immediate danger of losing the roof over my head or my access to food, safety, and creature comforts, so i am still in a better position than a lot of people are right now. but i'm still scared about all of this, for so many different reasons.
sounds like someone got their wires crossed or something. the wrong info in the wrong place
if you have access to a landline, it might be better to call from there so you're not using up your minutes, but I know most people don't have those anymore
I can't imagine it's anything worse than some overloaded person at the DOL fat fingering something because it's so obviously wrong
but like...the absolute worst time for it as you said because it's such a shitshow to get through to them right now
I'm pretty sure Monday is not a federal holiday though it's only ever been part of spring break for public schools at the most.
I'm glad you're immediately safe but yeah it's scary and it's shit. I'm sorry it happened and never feel bad about freaking out in your space
siriuslydementd: unfortunately we don't have a landline but i do have unlimited minutes on my cell so that thankfully won't be an issue!
fyrefly: i was a little worried it was a federal holiday but from what i've seen it doesn't seem to be. i'm just hoping it's an easy fix because i'm not sure how to prove i'm not working even after my boss sent in paperwork saying i was laid off
unlimited minutes is a definite advantage
