Are you getting groceries delivered? Please make sure you’re aware that many of these companies have workers on strike. These are some of our most vulnerable citizens, people who barely make it paycheck to paycheck, no health insurance, little to no savings. If you can go, shop for yourself, wear a mask and gloves. If you can’t, at least tip biiig.

I’ll share some info about the strikes, below. As it has been brought to my attention not everyone has heard about the strikes.

Instacart has hired some 300,000 new workers. Instacart didn’t provide any PPE for them until a few days into the strike, and have been running out of hand sanitizer ever since. Things like masks and gloves haven’t been provided. These shoppers are in the stores with regular grocery shoppers, so they can’t stay save amongst only themselves.

Instacart earnings are up 40% because of coronavirus, and yet workers are still barely getting paid, sick leave is not covered, even though they are being exposed.

The coronavirus crisis has been great for Instacart....

kesseret: Instacart is. Amazon has also been striking from similar conditions and they are employees.

*I should correct myself: Amazon employees and gig workers have been striking. They have a mixed bag.

I got my groceries delivered once and felt so guilty that I tipped the person $15 extra. I just get my own groceries now.

I totally feel that, Isabeal. Same. I think in “normal” times it’s less of a (moral) issue. (Still is though like TillHapmouche: mentioned.) But right now, my heart is really going out to people who don’t have much of a choice. Hard to find another job, and they need the money. It’s heartbreaking.
