So I just finished. And I bet a lot of people are really, really angry.
The ending was a little too.... flashy for my tastes. But what it accomplished, I'm on board with.
Like the hints were there throughout the game that the changes weren't just the remake updating the story.
And the moment we see one of the Avalanche trio survive, I was like, "Oh fuck they're really going there, aren't they?"
So, yeah. I like the idea of an alternate FF7 timeline. That sounds really rad.
The next games mean I get to replay something that I love, but having no idea what's going to happen.
Yeah, I'm actually really happy they didn't just do a straight-up remake
That's kind of the dream, ain't it?
is the story like, actively different? or is it just kinda side differences
Everyone is always like, "Man I wish I could delete LOTR and rewatch it for the first time"
I never played the first but I've osmosed it enough that I wasn't really interested in playing the remake but I'm wondering if I should give it a go
with_discipline: For the first 80% it's basically the same. Small changes here, added bits, and only a few deviations.
They've also fleshed out the characters a LOT
wildly off the rails for the last 20%, or just taking a different track?
But the deviations add up and although we see all the major events play out, they're always just a bit different.
Well not wildly off the tracks until the last chapter, which has events that don't exist in the original game and have no reason to exist in the origina.
Which is basically them deciding, "We're going to kill god so we're not bound by fate anymore"
(It's actually more like one of the planets WEAPONs, but I like the killing god metaphor more)
Before this released, I was of the opinion, "I'm in it for this first one, I won't be heartbroken if the subsequent games don't come out"
Now I'm chomping at the bit. I want to know what happens next in a game I've already played.
ooo, okay, interesting. I'll add it to the list then. Thanks!
man, I'm reading reactions now. People are pissed.
man, not just pissed. people are talking about being in mourning.
The remake is also a sequel and a reimagining. So I feel if you haven't played the first, you're still good to go into it.
Jim frames is as an adaption, like MCU Iron Man to Comic Iron Man
And that feels pretty apt, even if it's an alternate timeline situation
