aka an excuse to post this beautiful cover
gen has a father who exasperatingly does not have a name at this point in the series, but is referred to as "minister of war"
because he's the minister of war
he is the younger son of a previous king of eddis, and he's quite popular as the head of the military. it's clear that all the upperclass boys in gen's peer group idolize him, because he's sort of his culture's ideal soldier. it's strongly implied that if he had wanted to take the throne instead of letting his brother's daughter inherit, he could have.
but he pledged the queen his loyalty instead, which is a huge part of why eddis is stable. he's described as very average looking— not tall, not short, not thin, not fat, with a military bearing and a tendency to communicate in grunting noises.
gen's father wanted him to become a soldier instead of a thief and this (and their clashing personalities) led to a lot of fights between them, especially after his mother died, but they've made their peace with each other
once gen's father tried to kill him cleanly to prevent the queen of attolia from torturing him, that's love
bucky was… well, there was definitely a period of comics where steve was treated as his father. there were even jokes about steve maybe adopting bucky!! and then his name would be buck rogers!!
but this is in ye olden days and is not the current clack
bucky's dad was also james buchanan barnes but is called "jim" or "jimmy"
he career military and a parachute instructor of some kind who died when bucky was twelve in some kind of parachute-related accident
there's one telling where bucky saw the accident and it gave him a terrible fear of heights and another, well, i will just post the pages because who doesn't like looking at chris samnee art
then there's some pages having to do with his dad later on in the issue, when bucky's a little older but still getting in fights:
in current 616 continuity bucky was 16 when he met steve and steve was just 20, so that's more of a sibling relationship.
bucky's dad used to be named george until this comic changed it but i'm glad that happened because it made
this thread possible
my other characters don't have significant dad-related info
well except if you want me to post "Jimmy Olsen: Son of Superman"
which actually does feature the scene on that cover
