And yeah Supergiant did a Reddit AMA a while ago and one of the developers mentioned that there were references to a Zagreus in actual myth.
yep! honestly, they did a great job going full "it's free real estate" on a version that has like a couple of one-line sources
they also made canon jokes about the rest of the Zag myths

it's so good!
this game's mythology is overall pretty nice with its liberties. there's some attempt to soften the incest in Hades/Persephone, but otherwise it's all very well researched and makes sense, unlike a lot of myth-based canons
