For context, I just finished S1 E16

and additional context, I already know a lot of spoilers for the course of the show due to memes, looking things up, legacies, and tumblr in general

from what i can gather is that there is a general consensus on the treatment of the female characters of tvd, and that consensus is that it SUCKS

female characters are treated as throw-aways for "plot" reasons and are subjected to awful treatment from other characters

now my issue isn't so much with the "awfulness" of the treatment, but more so the reaction to said awfulness

at this point of the story the most egregious treatments have been to Vicki and Caroline, both of which have been rather horribly treated by Damon

and i get it, Damon is a baddie, that's fine, but what pisses me off is how his behavior has been excused by Stefan and Elena

i know i know, Elena is notorious for being narcissistic(TM), but even Stefan? i mean... "i don't eat humans" Stefan doesn't even give a shit about this?

He gives Damon so much shit over killing (turning? hasn't been confirmed yet) Isobel, but gives exactly 0 shits about these other women

i'm just so pissed about the Vicki thing

like she was improving her life because of Jeremy and when she's turned they just kill her rather than letting her live and learn???

EUGH

AND CAROLINE???

what the fuck is with everyone being so fucking rude to her

please tell me that she becomes a bamf in the future, please

like i know her role in legacies is kinda bamf-ish, being this badass mother traveling the world looking for a way to save lizzie and jo from the merge

i could go on, but i have to lock up the building soon

so let me part on the note that this is why i love fandom/fanfic so much, because we can see the awesome potential and bring it to light.
