That game remains the only game to legitimately physically pain me from how hunched and cramped I got trying to make myself smaller in my own living room while playing.
Excellent game, horrifying experience.
but you'll feel like the bravest person on earth when you crawl on your belly from beneath one desk to another 3 feet away
pro-tip: he learns how your tools work the more you use them. another pro-tip: he can hear the beeping on the tracking device. Have fun!
the alien absolutely takes some mensa classes as the game goes on, so as terrifying as it is... it only gets worse >83 Enjoy!
that first time when i pulled out the flamethrower and he started walking around me in a circle right out of the flamethrower's range hahahahahahajdlsjf
Dude, the game cheats to have it help it find you
the first time he charges instead of running away from it
the pc version is different
the alien version can hear your mic
also, you have to lean away while hiding or it will hear your breathing
and, outside of a few scripted moments, the alien is run on fully random ai
so each playthrough is different
i'll never forget the first time rather than stalking me through some rooms via doorways it leapt in through a window it had never done before
oh fuck i didn't know that about the mic
i love that they don't tell you these things and you just have a horrifying "oh" moment
i didn't know either as I originally played it on console
I watched Soviet play through it
And honestly? This doesn't exactly seem like my type of horror
I'm more into silent hill style than just monster type
I'll give it a try anyway
I honestly can barely play it because it scares me too much ;;
the story is pretty great, at least
the speedrun is amazing and not scary in the least
The mic function can be turned off if that's too much for you! But yes, the AI controlling the alien is incredible.
best monster unleased ai i think i've ever seen
mr. x in the REmake2 tried, but the Alien just remains so unpredictable and terrifying
I like how the speedrun explains it, so that even if you don't play into how it "learns" it STILL gets smarter and feistier
Words. Point is it still becomes more effective later in the game
‘Psychopathic serendipity’: the alien always find itself in the right place at the right time. what an amazing sentence
an AI for the alien restricted by what it can sense and know, and a director AI that gives it hints if it hasn't been menacing the player enough
also after playing the game you should watch the speedrun of this. it's wild
oh i gotta watch this speedrun. i didn't know it was possible
to make Alien Isolation not scary?
It seems impossible but they do pull it off magnificently. It helps when the speedrunner is a ball of positive energy and caffeine
that... or just to speed run in general
as i tend to play it by taking six hours to crawl from one desk to another 3 feet away ;p
i'm getting it even though i know in my heart i will never be brave enough to play this game
I hate hump scares lol but I know fiancé has it and wants to play through it with me. I am curious on the story?
I mean, yeah. Breaking the game to do goofy things or crazy clips (or seeing silly glitches like dancing androids) can help ease the tension
to be fair, this isn't really jump scare heavy
not in the traditional "sudden movement/loud noise" cheap jump scare
It's a ton of stealth and requires patience, and sometimes luck just shits all over you
this is more, creepy, oppressive terror
Ah okay. That might help then in me watching him play it
there are a couple of startling moments, but in the speedrun at least they're all cutscene related
honestly, you more or less always know roughlyish where the alien is
Psychological horror sort of thing is more my jam than jump scares and gore
and that's the scary part
you know it's nearby but where and how close
you can hear it hissing and walking around
other enemies can get the jump on you in the game but after the first time you learn what to look for at the least
you can see it's tail sliding around a corner
it can also kick open the vents to painfully slowly drop down
you'll hear the breathing and if you look closely... see the drool dripping
I mean you see the drool the first time you see any hint of the alien (before the actual full alien reveal)
but yeah it's more that you can be fully aware of where it is and you just want it to GO AWAY SO YOU CAN DO STUFF
all this love for the alien - deserved - but it's also just in general a really nice game
from sound design to looks
this game is the original movie asthetically
I do feel like the game itself drags out for a LITTLE too long in the latter segments of the game, but overall it looks amazing and has a lot of story if you know where to look
it matches perfectly if that retro 80s future is your vibe
It does, i'll give it that. it feels like the game ends... 3 or 4 times
but i can forgive it for everything else being so on point
and when so many games are coming out incomplete or with endings hidden away in dlc...
which, note, none of the dlc is necessary for this!
yeah >.> It's actually nice that "it's too long" can be a complaint with it but not a big one
it's all just "fun" stuff
by fun i mean more terror 8D
who wants to play on nightmare mode
i never finished the nostromo dlc, as the first thing you have to do is crawl into the dark vents with the alien and i noped out
I actually want to watch Alien at some point. What put me off was a fear for Jonsey the cat
Mild spoiler, Jonsey lives
Jonesy? IDK how his name is spelled
That... does seem odd that it would trigger that response.
maybe it's just for triggering DLC, but to be safe I'd run the program through malware and antivirus scans
The AI turned sentient and is now going to try to take over the world
AI just stands for alien isolation, i think
odds are its a false positive
asdfjk; wait is that what the freak-out is about? I thought it was freaking over trying to connect to the internet
heres another fun fact about the game: on console versions (xbone and ps4), the xenomorph could hear sounds from your real-world mic
yeah odds are the game wants to run a DLC check and windows is like "woah. hey guys"
I thought the AI standed for artificial intellifence which was why I wzs like uhhhhh
nah thats just the executable for the game itself, im pretty sure
is that a console-exclusive thing? because I caught the game on sale on steam a while back and snagged it.
you know what this sounds like a great game to watch somebody else play
as for me myself i am a weenie
well, if you don't want the funny speedrun antics to it, there are a couple of no-commentary playthroughs online too. I found one that was about 8 1/2 hours, doesn't find all the story stuff but was a good experience with minimal deaths, lots of tension and sneaking around
it really is. i first watched it via the yogscast but markiplier has a good one, too
markiplier is where i first saw it as well
oh good, mark tends to be quite entertaining for horror stuff
and space is his niche love so this wasn't one he played for gags
like say, his fatal frame playthrough
ugh i couldnt watch. did he do crimson butterfly dirty >:[
and you could tell he wasn't really into it
the longer the game went on
Markiplier's LP will always be my favorite, but the bias is real there. lol
i really like watching mark play horror stuff he's into
you can tell when he's only there out of obligation to his viewers and it really ruins the ride
the only thing i remember from his playthrough when i watched ages ago was when he found out that the alien could use the vents
i watch commentated let's plays for witty commentary but also for people having fun playing a game, you know? like the commentary can be as witty and the gameplay as polished if you like but if they clearly aren't having fun or don't wanna be there i tap out
same, i'm here for the people and sometimes i find a cool game
