And okay so something else that all this sacrifice/martyrdom discussion is jogging in me is that Pyrrha, Penny, and Ruby all have/had extremely similar character traits and flaws.

They were both proteges of a kind. All incredibly skilled for their age (or "age" in Penny's case). All of them struggle with some form of isolation where they found making friends hard.

AND ALL OF THEM HAVE A MARTYR COMPLEX.

I think I said something way earlier in the volume that part of Penny's arc seemed to be foiling/bringing to light some things that have always been integral to Ruby's story and I think that's absolutely still in play.

Ruby just had a bunch of people sacrifice/be willing to sacrifice themselves for her. That's...probably not going to sit well. And given the stuff going on with Summer (and Cinder's weird line about "you shouldn't have been born"), something tells me Ruby is probably going to get it into her head that she needs to sacrifice herself for all of this to end.

But Rule of Threes means this time the sacrifice is avoided. So...WE SHALL SEE.
