My grandma made it for my mom when she was a baby, so it's almost 60 years old

and it used to have like a smooth satin-y border on it that came off (it was sewed to the knit part but the stitches came out I think)

but the knit part is still going strong

still stands up to a wash

how long is a knit blanket supposed to LAST????

It might help that I wash with cold water

I'm not sure, but they can last a long time.

maybe a blanket isn't subject to as much wear and tear as normal clothing?

like you move around in clothes, not so much under a blanket

so less friction, doesn't wear out as fast, etc

That and you're taking good care of it, and the material it's made out of helps
