even if kondou were here, it wouldn't be as simple as agreeing with him since sougo tends to do his own thing sometimes too, based on his own idea of what's right.

invasion is probably a sensitive issue for the people of edo due to the invasion and subsequent colonization of the amanto. sougo definitely would've known about what samurai thought about it, even though he was very young at the time.

he's already pretty unpopular as part of the shinsengumi, but furthermore but his m.o. is being able to take on the role as villain in order to spare the innocent.

so i'm thinking perhaps he would appear to side with the war but not fully believe in it. it's just a way to keep an eye on the aggressive types
