my cats do this all the time. elwood will go and lick pogo and pogo will be like "yes" and then elwood will slightly lift his paw the wrong way and she will like "so you have chosen death"

that said caduceus will often lick boss' fur backwards to get him to leave whatever spot he's curled up in

Val would lick Missy's tail the wrong way to get her to move away from the food.
Right up until the day that Missy turned around and smacked her in the face (no claws, just a warning) and Val reared back so hard she fell over and then just sat there blinking like she couldn't figure out what had happened.
