"Buy it at full price," the developer whined
me: oh there's probably discussion on this on the discussion page
me, five minutes later: man, there's a lot of people not seeing why this is extremely bad
and I have to agree, who cares if you cheat on a single player game if there's no multiplayer that's affected
and even if that's the reason why that also seems like a maaaaaaassive breach of privacy
what it looks like from some digging that this is standard on PS consoles, which is a LOT LESS INVASIVE than, say, it still being there on pc
because pcs can go, uh.....much, much farther
there's also a massive difference between a separate video game console and a personal computer.
Yeah, there's really no excuse for something like this being on the PC
so it looks like it was a port without going 'oh yeah we should probably remove that'
because someone could, say, alt-tab out of the game and access financial data. which the company now owns.
hell if it was patched so that it only tracked keystrokes if the game was the active window, and left your personal folders alone
or, maybe remove that because the game doesn't have multiplayer
this is why even for other games, they tend to specifically look only within keystrokes / exes running alongside it
it's a huge privacy issue
with consoles it can read Literally Everything because most private, personal data isn't stored on the console in it's files
so yeah, it feels more like a developer oversight
also I had to share this lovely little bit from the discussion
All the privacy mouthpieces need to give up Steam for starters, you would be surprised what the ToS says in that.
Steam can actually access your Steam folder.
me: oh my god that's not the issue here
I let the info sit all day before posting it, and only the moment I do does it get debunked.
Passwords, private messages to people, passwords, what websites you go to, passwords, passwords, bank info, passwords
It's an abject lesson: If you behave in such a way that people might believe your game has a keylogger, quit it.
fffff thank you anyway, your heart was in the right place
also, optimize your ports dickheads

yeeeeeikes. Thanks for the heads up!!
