[David Cage is a hack] [Quantic Dream vs Le Monde trial debacle] [human translation] The machine translation available for this article was bothering me but not really enough to do anything about it. Then lucineblue poked me, and here we are, and I translated the clownshow. Text within.

some things worth noting that I have heard from an analysis of this real-life Ace Attorney case:

- France as a whole apparently has the general opposite of the "Right to Work" approach. Which is to say, dismissals/firings have to be justified. Which is why there is mention of illegal dismissals there.

-France also apparently has comparably lax discovery procedures? Which basically emphasizes more just how badly QD has been dropping the ball, hilariously.

- Cage is not David Cage's last name by birth (it's 'de Gruttola'), he allegedly picked it because it sounded edgy and American.

...Okay, the new part that I missed in the machine translation is de Fondaumière boilerplating a letter to fire himself

RandomProphet: Who, in turn, is named after Luke Cage.

but how does Johnny Cage fit into this?

I guess the advice we have for anyone reading the trial is “prepare yourself”
Sounds to me like Von Karma told him he should lie but he was too scared and wanted the judge's confirmation.

v074: Yes, in addition to France having the opposite of the "Right to Work" attitude, union culture is extremely strong in France. Notably, the publisher of this article, Soldaires Informatique, is not a newspaper, but a union for "digital works, digital consultants, and video game industry workers", and this is part of their newsletter.

awestriker: There's a very, very good reason I've compared this trial to the Vic McFuckface's hearing: both clowned the trial/hearing so goddamn hard that what was supposed to be a slam dunk in their favour turned the whole thing against them

Some additional context:

Quantic Dream suing newspaper Le Monde for libel is... kinda like trying to sue The Washington Post for libel in terms of "dude are you high" levels. Le Monde is vastly regarded as a serious newspaper that knows what the heck it is talking about and does not print things lightly.

It's super wild and the fact that Cage and de Fondaumière thought they could win this with next to no preparation is Pants on Head Moon Logic in its own right

I just saw that my server ate the accents in de Fondaumière on the backup copy, gdit server

It does speak to the massive boner France people have for everything American and American English

even if they don't get it
i mean i guess johnny cage is a cool guy
(or at least artificially so)
(500 dollar sunglasses, or something)
that said, honestly, i feel like "david cage" is a name that has less personality than his actual name
but i suppose "astaroth de gruttola" has that effect but i suppose part of that is, i'm an american, and "cage" doesn't seem that unusual of a last name (i blame nicolas cage entirely)
i forgot david cage is literally the demon astaroth as confessed by the man himself
honestly, i don't know why you'd want to remember anything about omikron, so that's fair, but it's permanently trapped in my brain

Man, Astaroth doesn't deserve this guy
you're right
and yet omikron happened

That the txt verion had borked French accents was BOTHERING me
Came here for the Dick McCage bullshit, was pleasantly surprised with Nick Cage, Ace Attorney and Vic Mangina references.
Y'all are great peoples.

Also I'm still stuck on the "I don't make games for fags" comment Cage made. Still over here like ORLY because whew, this fag right here is overly invested in it.
GAEA RAGE

I think at this point it seems obvious that Cage is making games so he can personally fap to them, which is worrying as all get out knowing the content of his games
Fuck yeah it is, he's so disgusting.
On one hand his disgustingness allows him to cross some lines that others aren't so comfortable toeing (i.e., all the nazi germany parallels)

i wouldn't say there's anything wrong with that, people can do wish fulfilment how they want

the PROBLEMS come with 1, his treatment of staff, making them make that, and 2, his treatment of actors

other people shouldn't be forced to get involved and actively distressed/traumatised over his fucking wank tape
Oh yeah, he's absolutely toxic.

Unfortunately, there's been a lot of noise about the video game scene in France in general being really toxic. I'm disappointed but not surprised that Quantic Dreams is part of that
God Bird

It's weird because France generally has very pro-labor practices and laws, but video games fell through the cracks and now the French public are noticing
lucineblue

ahahah... //stares at Ubisoft
That's why Ubisoft has so many offices not in France
Our politicians often use this to say "our laws are too strict, we need to relax them or all companies will leave the country!!!!"
And the people are like "cool, let them leave but we're not relaxing our laws."
Every time a new president has tried doing it, we go in strikes for months on. Macron is super lucky Covid gave him a way out without looking like he gave in to the strikes.
