I'm looking to make keycaps for a mechanical keyboard. Is there anything I should know before just kind of. Flinging myself into it, like. Is there a better brand of epoxy or something I should practice doing first

or like...assuming I don't want to spend a billion dollars, where I'd get supplies besides Michaels
So first off your biggest concerns are safety! You want gloves, you want a mask with an air filter, you want glasses, and you want a little rubbing alcohol on hand
Second: are you making your own molds?

I'm trying to find out if my keyboard is compatible with pre-made molds; if not, the yu p. :\ I really would rather nOT, but it's cheaper than buying a different base.
As for types... honestly that’s very personal preference. I will say Amazon has good beginner kits with some two part epoxy in the 20 buck range and that stuff is just fine
Pick one that’s doing what you do or has good reviews
You’ll want to look for Art resin over like boat resin
1:1 is so much less hassle than any other formulation
By volume or by weight is up to you, some are both.

For gloves, I've got a box of latex free nitrile gloves - does that work?
Those should be fine yes

a llittle alarming how many masks with air filters I have. But glasses, I'll get.
Your best option for mixing in I find are bitty Dixie cups or silicon containers. Up to your preference which you choose. Dixies are disposable, silicon can be cleaned out buuuuut fair warning it’s slightly annoying no matter whether you do it wet or dry
Resin haaaaates water. Getting any water in it threatens the stability and the curing

Is that affected by high humidity? (I have no idea how stupid that question is or isn't, but it's super humid here.)
No it’s a good question and yes if it’s bad enough it can effect the curing

yarnzipan: one more question for you! (And thank you for answering all of them so far)

If I have a mold for a gummy bear and one for a key cap, and I want to make a key cap with a gummy bear on it, how would I attach the two pieces? Would I set the key cap on the back of the gummy bear while it’s curing, or glue them together later?
ThatMinx: glue together later potentially with some UV resin
