Japanese doesn't really rely on pronouns in the same way, so it doesn't have the same hurdles in terms of everyday language

like where we would say "he", japan would be like "this person"

Yeah, that's one where it was considered the acceptable term for a long time but the language has since evolved

Like I definitely remember seeing it in regular use in the 2000s
