Guiding and teaching others and helping them unlock their potential. On the darker side: control, surveillance and manipulation of the things you love.
Silver/Emptiness: Day to day living with a curse or disability. Quiet small moments. Scrapbook moments. The slow drift of clouds. The edges of trauma; the conversations with the hole at the center. It isn't necessarily bad; it can be soothing, quietly healing, or bittersweet.

Black/Mystic: One of the weirdest ones bc it's supposed to actively defy making sense of it. Trust, placing yourself into other hands esp the hands of higher powers. Being moved or changed by forces you don't understand or control. Events only interpretable through the use of symbols or ritual.
Events happening around you without a sense of having had any control or input in them. Apotheosis and transformation to a higher state of being.

Black/Mystic is interesting because it's kind of the 'colour pair' with Green/Otherworldly: both focus on symbolic experiences and the potential to end up transformed, but Green is more internally focused and Black is more externally focused I think.
This is admittedly very much based on her canon, but the recent thing with Steph does make me confident it's a very solid core of Nene's character

Sidney is trickier to pin down because I think he's at a transition point: He has a history of Orange and I think he's in a bit of a shift to Silver. (He also has elements of Purple, but not enough to constitute a whole arc, sorry Sidney)
Him talking about the role he'd taken up in the game is very much what makes me assign Orange for him in canon, but this is Yogen arcs, so let's have a look at Silver.

one of the things Chuubo's does is it's powersets are connected to arcs. You complete an arc, you get some specific powers from the powerset.

There's three per colour, sorted by Immortal (you get conditional immortality while on this type), Frantic (you get willpower/mp from being in trouble) and Sickly (you can get willpower/mp by suffering from trauma/sickness/corruption)
so that means there's three Green powersets I could give Shin the 'completed one arc of this' powers from
Frantic Green/Spiritual can be ruled out right away, because it's about controlling/harnessing/listening to an element of the world and that... doesn't really suit him (despite that Frantic would be really useful to him)
Sickly Green/Called Away also doesn't really suit him because it's a powerset about being, well, called away to a strange other world to solve it's problems, only there's this weird figure in the background causing them who has suspicious thematic ties to you...

in hindsight if you treat the death game as the other world and midori as the odd background figure, it does work a lot better, but I didn't think of that at the time :' )
That leaves Immortal Green aka Child of the Ash, which is a very interesting arc powerset bc so much of it is tied to a specific setting element.
At it's base, it's about being an element of the world, but not necessarily realising that yet at Arc 1. You can 'infect' an area with a mood (for shin, likely distrust), and also it's inverse (by changing something about your appearance). you have an alternate, monstrous form it's harder to transform back from than into.
the setting element here, the 'children of the Ash' are giant peaceful snakes born from the world-tree yggdrasil, that themselves represent parts of the world like mountain ranges or the motions of planets or fundamental concepts. that could, in theory, if cast out of reality form world-trees of their own.
anyway, you can see how it's not a perfect fit but very amusing looking at yogen like
- shin's hair colour and wisteria petals aren't too poor of a match given the 'glows blue at night' thing

here are some future powers on Nene's arc
- being able to consume/digest anything
- have a meaningful, heartfelt conversation with someone about their experience of her principle and gain a small power/trinket/transformation representing that person's experience being held close to her heart
- that experience giving little insights into the person's life/circumstances, and if she focuses she can get a rough idea of where they are and their current level of her Principle/inverse of it
- later, it also helping her know what to do to increase it in them
- and using the rain/water to help them out, especially when they’re low on or need her Principle!

Starting at the opposite end we have Sickly Silver/Accursed. This is an arc about how the world sucks for you except for one place you retreat to when things get too bad... but which you can't stay forever in. It's about lashing out against that world, destroying parts of it, declaring yourself exempt from it both physically and mentally.
it's basically not a fun time all round, but at least you get the ability to delete things out of reality?

This is an arc about being connected to the world but still sort of holding it at arms length/standing outside a little due to what plagues you. Thereby having a foot in both, having a home in one and being drawn to the other, maybe having switched sides and (reluctantly) using the power of one against the other.
It's for people with an iconic Look and way they approach problems, people who are slippery and good at strategy or misdirection, tricksters, people with a reputation, information network or "old friends", maybe a fascination that's not good for them. and people who are dedicated to the world despite not fitting well into it

Immortal Silver/Indomitable is about being cool and strong and fearsome; where you have a curse but really that only makes you cooler. It's for vampire princes, fairy tale monsters, the kinds of heroes and villains you don't mess with and... wuxia cultivators? I'll take Jenna's word for it.
Basically if someone would warn a hero not to go messing with you unwisely... you're on Indomitable
Looking between the two of them... yeah, I think Sidney might be setting out on Troubled. Lets have a look at what that gets him at Arc 0.
(this also actually fits him previously being Orange; his role of protector is having to shift and change to accommodate what's been happening)
at baseline there's the Curse - this is what's messing up sidney's life currently. I'd say that this is the current sense of helplessness running through his life; the arm is like. very symbolically potent of it but also... not realising his husband got body-snatched, watching the people he loves increasingly Going Through It in general
and he has a Technique - a particular way he approaches problems. this is probably a bit of a 'watch this space', but some stuff from his old role might still carry over; that blocking and luring away of harm.
anyway the Arc 0 starter package is:

- if Komaeda listens to someone's concerns about hope or concerns in general, he can either give them some hope-related advice that'll turn out to actually help them and his own life will get more mysterious for a bit, or their life will get a bit more mysterious for a bit
- hearing komaeda talk about hope or remembering him talk about hope can empower them if they really have taken it to heart
- if someone betrays hope, komaeda can make an ominous warning and if they don't repent within a certain time frame, a terrible curse will befall them, and there's an expansion where it's more 'if this continues, good/bad thing will happen, for this group/area/person thing'. the curse is usually something to do with the symbolism of the mysterious warning

Finally, Accursed comes with a state of painful despair that gives you more power (MP in chuubo's, cheaper Cost in Glitch) but isn't a great state to be in; it's traumatic, it's lashing out, it's you, having shattered

- previously: the geasa and the forcing your role power
- while communicating or performing your role, you can suck people into it, cause them to gain a relation to it, effectively infect them with it. They basically become more like you or more like how your role would expect them to be. This is explicitly more than just charisma at work.
- conversely you can reject people and now also things from your role in a similar way, effectively knowing what will drive them away or make them less like you or take them out of your story.
- later on, these get a power up that lets you get away with injecting a new law of how reality works into the area while doing something with your role or rejecting something from your role. It just works that way don’t worry about it.
- become able to deeply understand the place or social context you’re in or a person, enough to pretend you have that strength of connection to it that usually only occurs over time.
Again, like many of these powers it doesn’t give you the skills or knowledge that would imply, but if no one takes a close look that doesn’t matter, and you can just drop that apparently deep, heartfelt connection like a rock at any time. It turns ‘I belong here’ to ‘I’m at home here’.

Sickly Red (Creature of Delirium) has a pretty signature trick; reaching into the hearts of others and pulling magical objects representing one of their qualities out. I think this is a utena reference? i have not seen utena. but also probably from other places

Nene being either a Wild Magister or a True God, and Sidney being a Strategist or Mimic
I'm leaning towards Sidney being a Strategist, because it fits being killed over and over again in his past even if the arc timing doesn't line up and I love how it means we have four Strategists, enough for a Chancery Chapter :' )

SJDJDDJFJ scrolls thru..... subaru has issues with opening up fully to people yeah, he seems likena very open and public person but he's actually quite private with his more negative feelings he can't quite process right thanks to growing up too fast...
rn subaru's more vibing but he's also a very defiant spirit, too; if there's something he doesn't agree with, especially if something is "bound", he seeks to to do everything he can to free it... thinky..he and trickstar caused a whole revolution of their school's way bc of it
but it wasn't something he felt passionately for until he saw one of his dear friends hurt by it -- he's actually pretty aloof and going just where his friends are, though he's gotten better about this and seeks to do things on his own if he doesn't like how something is, tho the need will always be greater if it affects a friend

i'll give a fairer summary of awakening then for comparison
Awakening is about... being kind of an infectious reality, intruding on this one. That's not always obvious, but that's what it comes down to; you have you, and that's just a sort of representation of something bigger, something different, some other plane of existence with other rules.
It's infectious because it's not the kind of truth you can just keep to yourself; it's in your nature to reveal it and thereby spread it, or it's like how once you know something, you can't not act as if you don't know, and that affects the world more and more too.

so with the double guilt whammy emily was like. i have to try to fix her. at the least bring "her" back. and now she lives with a crushing complex and barely even calls herself a doctor despite other people doing so
