This one's actually very easy for Shin bc it came up with that elevator thread but if he likes you then he wants to do things with you, like he'll bring you gifts for sharing.... especially food

9 - How does your muse handle emotions? what does it take to get your muse to cry? what are they like when they’re angry?

shin's usual response to emotions is to try and plaster on a smile and keep it inside

conceal don't feel, etc

partly due to midori, also due to retail.... but internally he's usually very not a cool cucumber and that can slip through the gaps

anyway what does it take for him to cry... i think he's the sort to naturally tear up and cry in response to physical and emotional pain, he doesn't like it

i'm sad that the tears welling up sprite doesn't show up on dreamwidth well but when you see this

or something like it there is a fifty percent chance he's crying a lil

and sort of doing that thing where you try to suck it back into your eyeballs and blink it away

he was def crying when komaeda had him pinned and when he got shot in the narumin mission

as for getting angry... take your pick between a cold glare, yelling while doing the distressed jazz hands, and him grabbing at his beanie with both hands

i've gone into detail about him getting angry in another questions plurk, but the tl;dr is that it's usually a frustrated outburst or something simmering.... he doesn't get physical and it drains fast for him

30 - what are some trinkets your muse has?

shin's the sort to get attached to items - he still holds midori's scarf for comfort and wears his comfy purple jacket whenever it's not in the wash, u can embarrass him about wearing the same clothes all the time but.... they're soft and warm

he has a mysterious key around his neck, which like, no idea what that's for or even if it's just decorative. i'm wondering if it made it into yogen... i think probably with the rest of that clothes set. naturally, it really is decorative here

in yogen he has like this entire inventory

and of them fairly reliably has the knife, the lantern, the laser pointer and the lighter on him when he's out and about

18 - What are some vocal headcanons you have? do they have a stutter? a vocal tic? do they stumble over their words or use a lot of ‘uh’s and ‘um’s? do they have a word they like to say a lot?

Some of it's headcanon, some of it's canon, he has his little 'ahaha' laugh he does, and he does have a stutter that usually appears when he's taken off guard or backpedalling in some fashion.

his speech doesn't have much ums or uhs in it, i think, mostly at the start of sentences to make a point, like along the lines of 'Uh, you know that's not true right?' or 'Err, not really' that sort of thing

he'll sometimes go '...' and be thinking, his speech generally does have the vibe of like, someone planning out what they say or even playing a role, sometimes

he'll do a lot with tone, like he'll say something he actually means but say it sarcastically to hide it, he'll say something polite but in a way that isn't polite at all, he'll say something pointed in a way meant to carry a secondary message, he'll say something with a tone clearly at odds with how he actually feels, he'll try to pitch his voice gentle

that kind of thing

he'll also tend to like, append his sentences a bit, with stuff like 'though, isn't it?, right?, i wonder...'

24 - What’s their handwriting like? is it easy to read or messy?

I think he has some fairly neat handwriting, like it's legible, getting a little more scribbly if he's in a hurry. he's a bit of a neat, detail oriented person in general, although it's not outright calligraphic

i'm wondering if it used to be more rounded and cute and he sanded off that part of himself like so many other things, which would be a shame

it's probably also on the small side bc i headcanon he's shortsighted so small text close up is easily readable to him

34 - Do they sleep in normal clothes or pajamas? To what degree are they clothed?

fully believe sometimes after coming home from nightshift shin would just faceplant in his bed fully clothed and zzzzzz

otherwise i think he would have pyjamas.... nice comfy ones bc of course

he runs more cold than warm so unless it's the absolute most sweltering night in existence that's him happy

in yogen he uh. doesn't have pyjamas so he just sleeps in his clothes im crying
just gets up a little early so he can shower and change before class and hopefully NOBODY TURNS ON THE SINK, SARA

if he suspects someone, naming no names, is going to pull that, then he'll go to the pool and use the showers there instead

despite everything, midori's scarf is still a comfort object... shin himself is a little unclear on when he started wearing it or why (thanks memory tampering and trauma), but speculates at some point in game that it was bc he was lonely

from his ai he seems to have worn a blue scarf before that

given that uh. midori seems to like grabbing people by the neck, i kind of hope that wasn't why he started wearing scarfs and it was just bc warm and comf

otherwise in yogen he has his jacket, which seems to have been also from around that time, but that's less a memento and more it's warm and he likes it

he also has his cute cat plush that meows when you press it's stomach from those days

i feel like shin's the sort who's like. oh i'm getting to old for these (shin you're 21 your insecurities), i need to throw them out, but then can't bring himself to do it

so he just... keeps them... like i said he gets attached to objects that have or had meaning to him

13 - What is a fear they won’t admit to anyone?

hard mode bc he doesn't like admitting his fears and dislikes in general in case they're used against him

though funnily enough not that he's afraid of dying bc that's something everyone has, right?

i think he was afraid of not amounting to anything... of his life just not going anywhere... of never becoming the kind of person he wanted to be

death game kind of took that and went 'ohohoh you have other priorities now buddy'

and now there's still some of that... but i think his biggest fear right now is failing the people he's gotten attached to here the way he almost and in some ways did fail kanna

this theme features in his nightmares prominently

38 - What is their body language like when sleepy?

awwwww i love this one

i think in a word 'muzzy', depending on like, how sleepy he is and the environment, blinking and head dipping, yawning, etc

hunched over staring at a screen like 'i don't need sleep kanna i need answers'

i think if he's woken up (or rousing from unconsciousness rip) he's like. a little slow and '???' until all of his brain comes back online

exception to any of this if it's a situation that's mainlining adrenalin into his veins bc then it's like im fine im awake im awake i'm not operating on four hours of sleep aaaaaaaaaaaa

47 - How does your muse handle a nightmare? do they go tell someone? ask to sleep with someone? stay awake? go back to sleep?

the canon answer is that someone shakes him awake in concern and he does that waking up '??? oh im not in nightmare im in room that's kanna' booting up and then he tries to reinforce his hold on her bc the dream shook up the little sparkly jar of his paranoia
and otherwise picks up where he left off

so... no, he does not go tell someone or ask to sleep with someone.... tries to brush it off

he's used to like. living alone in his apartment and thereby just trying to deal with it alone and also it's hard for him to seek comfort bc of his insecurities

until recently even in yogen he'd just try to 'ride it out'.... try to go back to sleep and if that failed just... get up and do something like explore the school or work on homework and pay for it with falling asleep in class the next day

helena suggested the idea of writing down his nightmares and destroying them, and that's been working pretty well in giving him enough catharsis to get back to sleep easier

and also inadvertently a way of processing things in a way that isn't grabbing the nearest person like 'don't betray me'

he likes to write them in the room's red ink, just like his notes, and then burn them with the blue lighter

occasionally after a nightmare he'll just briefly look down from the top bunk to see if sara's still there and fine, which makes him asking what ranger's deal is with checking in on him doubly ironic

sometimes if they both can't sleep they'll study in the dorm

i don't know if shin's consciously realised the extent of it, but he does sleep better if another person's nearby, even if better is 'at all'

49 - Does your muse know how to cook? are they good or bad?

I need to move Shin a little in the yogen meme of this honestly

he was a cup ramen kind of guy but cooking with nene he's been improving... even getting confident enough to try for the competition
he is now Really Good at soups and fairly good at some other stuff and probably not going to cause a cooking disaster until he tries to grill something

or like, make an ice cream sundae

if you'd asked him before yogen he'd have scoffed a little I think

ghosts are just people getting fooled by perfectly ordinary things, etc etc

and yet, still getting spooked by things himself

wrt the supernatural in general same thing... it's interesting in light of his mindset which does tend to the ritualistic... i keep bringing it up but taking the name sou hiyori like a protective shield really is the most specific example of this

in yogen... well it's pretty clear ghosts and magic exist.... magic intrigues him a lot but he also has a healthy respect for it after the pool lava... and the soul ripping circle... and noah tearing up the lawn... and lucifer exploding a door...

it's terrifying and he has no good defense against it and that... probably is in part contributing to him wanting to learn as much as the 'wow magic cool factor'

also, he thinks clamor is a much powerful wizard than he is and that's very funny to me

sdfgfddf i have to think now if he's ever encountered it... i think he'd get very sick of finding glitter everywhere very fast

apart from that it might be along the lines of 'isn't glittery stuff for girls?' i'm sorry about him

mostly i think he has no strong feelings on it up until said aforementioned finding it weeks later happens

then it's low grade dislike forever
