美國有三成的跨性別會因為遲疑而延後就醫，很多人就醫經驗當中還必須「教導」醫師跨性別相關醫療的知識，因為他們發現自己的醫師連跨性別變性是怎麼一回事都不知道。研究顯示，曾有這種就醫經驗的人，延遲就醫的odds ratio是其他跨性別的四倍。
