aside from not realizing that shin is not actually a mindreader, i think ranger pegged shin as a lot more callous than he actually is since he assumed he was a watered down version of the people he knew (and himself too, but they're kinda the same hat there,) and then it took him until like... december to realize they didn't hate each other squints

ok the nice one is that shin's anxiety is his biggest hurdle and he's his biggest problem
