so it's 130am, I'm woken up by a dog shaking her ass off terrified, and after a minute I realize my smoke alarm is chirping due to low battery

I spend the next 15 minutes trying to figure out how to change the batteries, not because I'm an idiot but because I know we have some sort of setup where the upstairs and downstairs alarms are connected and didn't want to set the upstairs one off

15 minutes of bleary eyed googling while a terrified senior is shaking against my hand later and I see nothing about setting off the other one by taking out the batteries

decide to do the decent thing and actually change the batteries rather than just take the batteries out until the morning

spend the next 10 minutes getting one of the fucking batteries out

the second I get the last replaced battery off

it sets off the upstairs fire alarm

I'm fucking pissed

bright side? Reilly was out like a fucking light until I got up to change the batteries and wasn't shaking like Zoe when I got back having accidentally setting off 2 fire alarms (because of course the one in my hand went off too)

Reilly has also wisely gone back to sleep already while Zoe is still worked up and panting into my hand as I type

she clearly needs more time to chill, but at least the alarm isn't chirping anymore

it's been over a half hour hour and she's only now starting to calm down

and that comes in waves

I'm jealous of Reilly being able to go back to sleep while Zoe creates a vibrate function for my bed

oh noooooo i'm so sorry

alarms are stupid

she eventually was able to calm down and we all got to bed

oh no poor Zoe

like an hour later

she's fine now

God I’m so sorry. Fire alarms in the middle of the night are one of my personal hells. Poor baby too.

well until I made the stupid mistake of changing the batteries it was just the chirping every minute or so, which wasn't bothering anyone but her

but my God was she shaking

oh poor pup going through that

but at least you fixed it as fast as you could and got to eventually get some sleep
