shin: 1-6, 15, 18, 20, 29-30, 37
oh wow : D lemme chip away at this
1. Is your character…okay?
I'm crying.... the answer is no
omigosh you have bun's set of Q's
okay i have no idea what questions i asked you GO RIGHT AHEAD
carry on!!! <3 sorry lint
yisss
sorry i saw your set but it had questions i'd answered before so I decided to go with one that had different ones
dsfd we will find out the questions together
where was I.... shin's been marked by various traumas, from his time with midori, his time in the death game, and his time in yogen
he'd been starting to recover from his experiences with midori before the death game, but his life still wasn't great; stuck in a rut, barely getting any sun, socialization or food, self-esteem on the floor
in a lot of ways i get the sense he built himself up to the point of treading water and then got stuck
i headcanon that he did take a year of university and midori disappeared during or shortly before it, which mean he flunked, badly, as a result of all the issues he was grappling with at the time
anyway after a couple of years the death game happened and opened up old wounds and inflicted new ones, but it did teach him that maybe he was wrong about how the world worked on his death and he carried forward that wish to try into yogen
and he has been doing that, making friends, getting better food, exercise and sleep although he's starting to overextend himself, he's been improving but he still has those scars on him
and now with midori's arrival.... he's not doing well, At All
2. What would be on a wanted poster for your character?
I'm crying Shin actually acquired a yogen canon wanted poster so let me find it
apparently he's wanted for being part of a hacker crime duo with helena - helena handles the social engineering side and shin the computer security side
have i said i love this game so much
3. How does your character feel about death?
deeply terrified of it
shin's a new one for me in that he's traumatised and depressed but also very extremely not suicidal
even when he's sacrificing himself for kanna it kind of.... isn't him sacrificing his life? like he's absolutely placing himself at risk for her but he also fully expects his back up plan to work
it just........ doesn't :''' )
probably if pushed to a point where it really did come to a clear choice shin would pick someone he cares about but he'd still be trying to live you know?
in the elevator thread there was a scenario where he could only take off his or kanna's collars before they activated and killed them and he took off kanna's but he still clawed at his own until his fingers were bloody
even in the yogen field trips he's still tried to stay alive for as long as possible, making it a week being hunted down for sport in one, and a month slowly dying of starvation in the other
that said one interesting detail about him is that once it's clear he really is doomed, that he's capital D Dead and it's just that it's only a little til it catches up to him, he does give up
there's his little 'i'm done for' in the weird flashback to him being stabbed, and of course in the route where he dies he gives up on trying to get to the exit and decides to do something with what time he has left
he extends this to other people too
he's got reason to be particularly upset here, but I think he gets upset in general when people throw away their lives, especially for a person or cause
because his survival instinct is so strong, it's hard for him to understand why others don't value their lives
or rather, it's the shape of something he doesn't want to understand, looming
things are shifting a little interestingly in yogen though, because he's been chewing on the concept of self-sacrifice ever since sidney pulled that move against the wolf and while it hasn't changed much of his inclination, he's been thinking about it
after his experience starving alone he... might also actually seek out someone to kill him, next time, which is buck wild
4. What’s your character’s coffee order?
probably by habit, the cheapest thing there
which I tried looking that up but it didn't turn out well so that's the answer
shin's mostly in it for the caffiene and a little bit of the like. connotation so he'll suffer through something really bitter if he has to, but'll add milk if he can
he doesn't go insane with the additions like midori but if he had enough spare change might add one or two things he likes as a treat
most of the time though, it's just. coffee
it's part of his whole hot drinks like
5. What does a day off look like for your character?
in canon shin's days off probably consist of sleeping in, staying indoors and doing various things on the computer late into the night
either watching anime, arguing with people about anime, playing games, lurking on forums, and working on programming commissions
he worked night shift so his sleep schedule was a bit fucked and he didn't really go out much beyond walking to work; i get the sense he did most of his shopping at work when it was slow
in yogen......... what is a day off im crying he's got school work and then teacher work and home work and now running a shift at the shop. he can combine those things at least
so his leisure is like, scattered across the week and usually he's hanging out slash eating food with people or working on his own personal projects in his room
he does also go into the gardening and gaming clubs occasionally and plays dnd when it happens
and he's probably intermittently in the basketball team now
during the holidays when he has more free time is when he either crashes or has more time for the things he's working off and on in the background
but yeah he is stretching himself a bit thin it's like that point where he's doing well enough he's like oh yeah i can totally do this and then reaches just a little bit further no wonder noah's cards were telling him to chill
6. What lies are told about your character? Do they believe any of them?
dsfdgf this is a good question I am.... not sure honestly
i know there's a persistent rumor in the school that shin keeps killing people because he keeps getting covered in blood despite this not being true
i am not sure if shin knows about this but he does have good hearing so maybe he could have heard it whispered im crying he would not believe it bc he was there gandalf
double checking his memories just in case, nope he didn't kill
apart from that a lot of the things told about him are true if sometimes uncharitable.... sometimes people think he's chill but he doesn't believe that one either
i love komaeda describing him as 'the aloof sheep in wolf's clothing' that's not a lie i just think it's neat
15. Is your character dangerous? Do they think they are?
god the first one is the million dollar question
i think shin is dangerous in the way anything that's been backed into a corner can be more than inherently; he'll lash out, he'll act unpredictably, he'll fuck up group cohesion and where it's not impulsive it's unintentional
shin's used to being powerless, so he dangerous in the sense that anything feels 'fair' to him, anything feels like fair game to try in the face of stacked odds, even as he does have a moral core that checks this
while he's not physically strong, he's got a clever brain and is smart enough to really cause problems for himself and others
in yogen he's also been steadily acquiring weapons over time, even as he's never used them
but otherwise you can scruff him like a kitten, and his social skills aren't super good so you can get him there too
now his sense of himself as dangerous.... is interesting
as i said he's used to thinking of himself as powerless, but coming off the death game.... well now he's not so sure
the fact that kanna almost died really shook him and now he worries that he might have become TOO good at being sou hiyori, and it's a fear that infects his CR because he's scared of them trusting him too much too
it doesn't help that even he can get taken off guard by his own reactions to things, so it makes him feel unpredictable even to himself
in a way it plugs into existing insecurities within his mind
but also a lot of things about himself he considers make him 'weak' are.... still there, so he's caught in this space where he can't easily classify himself and it was one of the first things in yogen to start eroding at this worldview
18. What’s the line between right and wrong for your character? How moral do they consider themself?
this is interesting bc it's like. line between right and wrong about what things in particular? people have different tolerances for different things
i think though, that for shin particularly, people who abuse the trust others place in them are the worst, like that's what really gets him
he really doesn't want anyone to suffer the way he suffered
also people who harm those who can't fight back. i do love that shin has a very like black and white world view about the strong taking advantage of the weak but also utterly despises this it's a very interesting internal tension
you can see it when he tells his shadow self to shut up or glares at it
to him the world is like this but it shouldn't be and i think at his core he's sitting on a lava chamber of anger that it would surprise him to find
this is why he particularly hated finals in yogen
so how moral does he see himself? not very.
see above about becoming sou hiyori to survive; becoming an inherently despicable to him type of person to survive
and now, the fears he's stuck that way
it doesn't help that his sympathy for the 'weak' like him means he tries to reach out to them, but because of his own traumas it's easy for him to be like is this me grooming them
and... his experience with kanna doesn't do anything to dissuade him of this because she was throwing away her life for his because she'd believed him about being useful and that's utterly terrifying to him
she used his own words as arguments for why she should die
this is why he was relieved when helena was actually angry at him and put him on blast much as that was a bit spooky because it's an orienting point, it's a sign that she won't just accept anything he does
even if that comes with it's own fear for what she could do outside of his wishes, although that's a small tiny one he tries to keep a lid on
20. What would make your character cry?
PAIN, physical and emotional.... also if he's overcome with strong emotion in general
shin strikes me as the sort of person that cries easily and hates that he does so he tries to hold it back
he'll have tears bead up and try to blink them back
both times we see him dying he's got full waterfalls
that beading up has it's own sprite and also appears in a cg where he's angry and grieving
29. Who would your character give anything to be reunited with?
Anything is a bit of a loaded question, because there's a lot he wouldn't give up for it, but he'd like to see Kanna again......... not in Yogen tho, that would break his heart
he got some closure with the elevator thread but he'd like to know that, you know, she's doing okay, he can't rely on sara's testimony that she's fine anymore..... it's a worry
he has a lot of regrets and self esteem issues plugged into their cr so he'd be happy if she was living a happy life without someone like him
i think maybe his parents also, if only to say goodbye and or ask Some Questions
apart from that there's not really many people he knows outside of yogen and inside it he's been fairly lucky in that most of his close bonds have been safe so far
30) Who are they the most glad to have met?
Once upon a time this would have been Midori.
he's grateful to his parents, but that's kind of different
in yogen.... i think he's glad to have met helena and sidney and his close cr in general
one day it's really going to hit that he has this many friends now
37) What memory do they revisit the most often?
This is a tricky one because Shin has a tendency to obsessively go over his memories in general and there's a whole suite of greatest hits and the current flavour varies
he canonly mentions going over his memories of midori repeatedly and so that's probably got the most by sheer volume
but there's things like the main games, atsushi's death, and even just smaller things like interactions with people
you know how it goes 'what were they actually saying' 'was i weird'
replaying the conversation in your head but you being much better at it this time
he iiiiiis
he's just doin his best
