and I don't mean intentionally laughing

they either just tangentially heard that Sherlock Holmes had a canon brother or took one look at the character and went "okay but what if we just did the exact opposite?"

so instead of a heavy set, smarter but far lazier version of Sherlock who genuinely does not give a flying fuck about anything other than the problems someone can bring to his armchair

he's a tall, thin asshole who cares about propriety and money and is bitter that Sherlock is smarter than him

I guess this movie really needed to bring in some family tension

I loved that movie Sherlock is just a sweet idiot

the 4th wall breaks are getting super weird, stop looking at me Millie Bobby Brown

all I know about this movie is that jacked Henry Cavill Sherlock Holmes is also the most hilarious thing

I fully embrace it tho

If I recall correctly there were some weird rights things with it because some of Sherlock is public domain and some is not

So there’s like copy right on iterations off the characters.

it shocked me when I looked into the actor playing Mycroft and it was the guy who played Finnick Odair

portolan: yeah some of the latter short stories aren't in public domain yet and the estate are being massive assholes about it

and keep trying to use it for anything Sherlock-related, and they keep getting knocked down by the courts when they overstep

I don't mind defying expectations or even not being completely true to the canon, but I guess I still have yet to see Mycroft ever done right it bothers me lol

the closest to canon was Stephen Fry in the terrible Downey Holmes sequel

Mycroft is ten times funnier if you picture him with steam coming out his ears and a monocle popping off every time he gets upset

they needed someone to be stuffy and uptight this movie, and the ball landed on poor mycroft

i think those last sherlock stories are in the public domain now though, so no one ever has to care about the doyle estate again

the movie was cute, everyone looked like they were having a blast

oh next year, then

the 4th wall really got to me tho

especially when Millie stared into my soul and asked me my thoughts on the mystery like she was Dora the fucking Explorer

then by the end half the cast was staring into the camera and I shrunk into my couch to avoid their stares

a few times the director just blatantly broke the 180 degree rule and threw me

like Enola was riding her bike from the left side of the screen to the right, then it cut to her falling over and she was falling to the left side of the screen instead of the right like she should have

in another scene she was sitting on a bed falling talking to someone, she was on the left, other person was on the right, cut to a close-up of either her looking left or a close-up of the two and she was now on the right

royaltimes: yeah, it looks like 4 more stories fell into it this year with only the last 2 left
