Just learned that Otakuthon 2022 is going back to being in-person (as opposed to online). Unsure how to feel. Especially with the 6th wave of Covid swelling in Québec (and let's face it with all anti-Covid measures dropped in Ontario since the 20 it's only a matter of time 'til we get that 6th wave as well)...
As much as I miss cons, and seeing my friends, and meeting with fellow nerds, and admiring people's creativity in the Artists' Alley, and attending panels (and sometimes giving some), I worry that this year is gonna be particularly unsafe, health-wise
Yes, there is always con crud, but covid's the Ultimate Con Crud
not to mention all the people going home after and potentially infecting other people

Otakuthon as a whole is Good and I hope they have success and can continue for many years still
and I feel bad for all the artists and artisants who depend on convetions to make ends meet
but I wouldn't feel safe going
given that I may finally have my eye surgery at the end of that month too I don't wanna risk it

I feel cons are the only time I'm allowed to be myself in public
I've been having dreams of being at a con for the past 2 years
ah yes, when you don't need to mask all the time and can be kinda weird

I miss going to cons. but not worth the covid risk
