but the fact that it's happening during their "message your loved ones! we'll gift you 3 extra stamps for every 10 that you spend!" promotion makes me squint

in case I haven't explained it before, in order to email your loved one in jail, you need to buy "stamps"

it costs one "stamp" to send a message, one stamp for them to be able to reply to it, and one stamp per attached picture (limit of five), and then I forget how many for an ecard or other thing

I was trying to send an email using all of the 4k characters that it allows you to use, and attach some photos... when I noticed that it was charging me an extra stamp for some reason.

I almost missed it

I looked at the "this is how many stamps things cost" page, couldn't find a reason for it, looked through the help, couldn't find any mention of something that would be costing an extra stamp, found nothing... so I dicked around with it

turns out that for whatever reason, if you have up to 76 characters left in the email, it's fine, it costs only one stamp. but if you have 75 or fewer characters left... it costs two???

so if you're writing a long letter and trying to use up all your characters, to a person you probably care about if you're writing that much, you get overcharged.

and since I do in fact care about this person and am trying to get all I can out of this message, I also attached as many photos as I could... which means it charges me more stamps, which means that I had to do math in order to notice that it was overcharging me.

I tried to spend as many stamps as possible, to get closer to the 10 stamps needed to get 3 free thing... which means I almost didn't notice an extra one sneaking in there!!

IF THIS IS ON PURPOSE IT IS VERY SMART AND EXTREMELY SNEAKY BULLSHIT

which, good job nonexistent help system, you are correct that I am not going to call that number

and even if I did, I'm betting it's a useless automated phone tree that won't actually help me
