it's a free app with free access to books that people don't want children to read.
recently launched, but it sounds like they plan to add to it later.
obviously don't love that it had to happen...
but i appreciate this effort.
books get sexier after they're banned
maybe more kids will be looking for them
i've been on too many calls this month about districts pushing back on our title lists in our collections for summer school. it's so heart-breaking.
oh this is fucking amazing. I wish this had been around when I was a kid I would have used the hell out of this
novelties: what really? your books are so wholesome though!
how the fuck do you get mad at scholastic
some districts in some places didn't take kindly to their collections including the above....
lmao how dare you teach my kid to not be a racist
one of the titles on the library site you linked above is ours too.
IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY and sad. and just.
this free resource distribution method is awesome and i'm so glad for it.
novelties: lmao HOW DID THE ASEXUAL BOOK PISS PPL OFF
likely bc it has "sex" in the title. Obvs bad.
hummingmint: because any identity that is not straight male or female is an abomination to these people
even 'i don't feel any sexual attraction whatsoever'
it's a deviancy and thus a moral failing, unless you're producing a nuclear family with a husband, a submissive wife, and two and a half kids, as far as these people are concerned you'd better be on the way to that or you'd better die quietly because if you make any indication of your existence whatsoever you're 'shoving it down everyone's throats'.
and just to stay on topic, all the more reason to distribute free books to the people who need them
let's try to promote access and education to the communities that need them the most
the kind of people who ban books are really fussed by the idea that any part of their Correct Sex And Relationships Path might be optional
Yes that's a legit reason they'd do that, but I know people that would just look at the title and
it's so very fascist of the party crying 'first amendment' every time they get called out for hyperbolic hate speech to turn around and - in the very same moment - ban books that teach kids not to be homophobic, racist dirt bags.
i mean i guess they have to keep their numbers up somehow
ah. it doesnt have sex in the title. i was referring to "you should see me in a crown" which is about an asexual girl. but i forgot that her romantic interest is still a girl (its on my tbr)
Free books that make conservatives cry and shrivel up into nothing? Even better.
thank you for the new app link. gonna put this to good use
so many of the 'banned books' are actually fine (except to pearl-clutching conservatives)
a very clever and sneaky way to distribute
The Uncensored Library is an amazing minecraft project, btw.
Absolutely support that one.
I downloaded and explored it a few years back and not only is what it stands for Important, the build itself is mindblowing.
I assume you have to have/play minecraft for the uncensored library to work?
assholes: DON'T HAVE SEX!!
asexuals: ok
assholes: no wait not like that
I never knew about the uncensored library!
You do have to have Minecraft, yes, but the reasoning behind it is thus: the books contained within are banned and illegal in many countries, but Minecraft is still allowed in all of them. Therefore, the Uncensored Library is a sneaky way to use the top-selling game in the entire world as a medium for distribution of otherwise inaccessible media.
fadespiders: don't you know anything? you're supposed to obsessively want sex and be completely ashamed of it like a normal, decent human being
hsumi: The internet archive was trying to do something similar. But that went over kinda not well with an author who thought other authors were being screwed
wait i think i just heard about this
the guy was the author who wrote that Star Wars: Aftermath book series, right?
is he infamous for other things?
being an idiot on twitter, as far as i can tell
I have a librarian friend in Seattle who is fighting against a book ban.
Being an idiot on Twitter, being famous for writing and giving writing advice while being bad at both, and being a copyright pest who DMCAed two guys for writing a critique of his book
Catcher in the Rye is usually flagged more for language and the fact that he hires a prostitute i think. not much racism to be found. but it doesn't even matter that he doesn't sleep with said prostitute, i think that part is still a large part of what gets that book banned
It's profanity and sexual content and the fact that Holden Caulfield talks like a teenager, yeah
This is a great project and I will definitely be taking advantage of it!
