Ooooh dear

Short version now that I have slept-- the infamous B and I have been PVPing like mad.

Both of us worked really hard on our ranks (me to not much effect to be honest) and series rank to the point where both of us have the armor and two out of three of the Garo horses.

So I roll up to test a new person for raid in the armor because what is anything if you can’t flex a little.

And we’re talking and I’m like “yeah we’ve been pvping like crazy, I hope that I remember what my pve buttons do”

And he’s like “oh yeah, that’s cool I’m already ranked and everything”

And I specifically was like “you’re ranked this season already? That’s awesome, what’s your rank?” And that’s where the mess starts. (More in a moment, have to get ready for work)

And you have to understand he says it with the tone of like “I’m done with the season already”. Like it’s not just “oh cool, I’m also working on it”

It’s done with the tone of like “oh, y’all are still pvping? That’s really cute, I finished out my rankings for the season already”

But the main thing is I specifically say this season and he specifically confirms this season and really highly ranked and that he’s been just rocking it, basically.

And I think this seems weird but whatever, time to kick the shit out of the unreal trial and I’ll think about it later.

So we do and I’m like “oh hey let’s go pvp, then!”

And he starts talking about how much ranking up and playing he’s been doing with his friends. How fast his friend group have all blown through CC ranks playing together in the last week.

And how much of a badass he is, etc etc etc.

All of this, again, with a kind of like “been there done that, I am a pvp god and it’s so cute that you children have decided to pvp” tone. Which he does a lot mind you, but is just kind of background noise to me usually.

But if you have pvped at all in the last week or even read anything about pvp, you know that “I ranked really high playing CC with my friends” is a statement that cannot be factual.

He very clearly meant he had been playing the mode literally with his friends, in a group, specifically to rank up

You can only queue into ranked matches solo.

i am not surprised but also... dude.

But at this point I'm just kind of like... surely no one would be that bold. And off we go to Wolves Den.

I've belabored a lot of this story at this point but I want to emphasize again how this entire time, he's talking about how much he's been PVPing.

And then we go to duel and he's like "hang on a second, why are my bars all fucked up on GNB? It won't let me move nebula to my bar?"

And then proceeds to very clearly have NO IDEA THERE HAVE EVEN BEEN CHANGES TO PVP.

Up to and including asking like "did they change pvp recently or something"

While he's STILL GOING ON about how he doesn't need anything from the Garo event because he "finished it last time" (He didn't, I have more Garo achievements than he does twice over and I've had a week)

i just... i mean i know the answer is 'no' but did he not think this through at all.

Anyway, among some other things (he did something VERY unprofessional while trialing the new guy that we also needed to talk about) I told him I was really excited to learn that he had been into PVP and was really disappointed that he was lying about it. (There were other things, this is the short version, believe it or not)

He answered all of my other questions, including one in the same discord message as the pvp comment and was like answering back in SECONDS, even pinging me if I wasn't answering the other things fast enough (because I was at work, yanno?) but then when I was like "and are you going to address the pvp thing" he went radio silent ALL DAY.

But then that night, I see he's PLAYING FFXIV, but still hasn't talked to me.

So I let a few hours of this go by and ping again like "hey man, we gonna talk about this" and he's like "I've been busy all day"

"You've been ON FINAL FANTASY for three hours"

I've just been logged on cleaning"

"But you didn't have time to message me back on something I said was important to me?"

"I didn't get the message."

"You answered everything else from the SAME MESSAGE"

And then, then, I FINALLY get a response which is, almost word for word, and the same format:

1) I ranked up in Feast back in the day (2017 btw) so being ranked wasn't a lie

2) I was drunk at the time (while we were TRIALING SOMEONE FOR THE RAID) and didn't know what I was saying

3) That's all I have to say about that.

And I was just kind of like, fuck this I’m out. Like, don’t lie to me, hurt my feelings and then lie to me about lying when I call you out and THEN list out those as the reason you “weren’t really lying”

You might notice NONE of that was an apology in any way, which would have also been fine.

He’s lied about stuff before but it was never something that HURT before.

He then posted “proof” as I was blocking him that was a picture of his CC wins (he’d been online for hours) like it was proof he wasn’t lying... except the screen also shows that that was casual only and showed he’d never even PLAYED a ranked CC match.

So yeah. Done with all of that.

I think if it were the first lie or if he had just admitted it, or even just said “oh I missed that you meant this season” early in the convo, it would have been fine.

But continuing to double down over and over again and be an ass about the doubling down is a big no for me, sir.

And the part of it that’s so ridiculous is he just could have said “cool that you’re doing the new stuff, I was a big pvper in the Feast and I’m gonna kick your assssss” and it would have been not even a thing.
