WHY THE FUCK DO É AND Ü MAKE YOU SHIT THE BED
"Nyx why don't you" ANGRILY WAVES IPOD
i just use a sandisk micro sd mp3 player...
Given that my iPod is cracked and the buttons fuck up sometimes because of it, I should definitely invest in a new mp3 player
there actually are alternatives out there these days... but tbh, I have a 265GB microsd card in an android (about $20-$25 USD on ebay, onn. brand; there are fakes out there galore, but seldom for that brand, as it's legit inexpensive to begin with) and installed VLC on said droid.
I understood some of those words! :3
lmfao. should I rephrase anything? I'd be happy to, if I know what, even if it's "all of it".
my sd card:
"onn." brand is pretty inexpensive in the first place, so if you can find an ebay listing for one, it's almost certainly legitimate, not a fake card. it should only be about $20-$25.
I stick that into a little android tablet I use for youtube and music and whatnot (it's paired to my bluetooth headphones stuff) and don't need any special programs to do so, because android devices act like usb flash drives when connected to the computer.
so I arranged my files how I want to, under /card/Music/, all neatly in folders by artist and album.
then I installed the android app version of VLC Media Player on the tablet, and using it, I can browse my directories, add folders and files to playlists, etc etc... and so, I'm good to go.
in fact, I can totally even just download music while I'm out and about. I have a youtube downloader app, so when a song comes up on youtube I like, or I decide to hunt
Ooooooooooooh okay I understand now I wasn't sure what type of device you had your music on
one down to add to my collection, I can just... do that. and then toss the audio file into the folder where I want it to stay, and go about my business.
yeah... I do have an ipod, technically! I've had several, in fact....
a dedicated media tablet sounds nice, but I'm looking for something small and portable to put in my pocket when walking or doing chores
my favorite has been my iPod Classic - a 256GB model
hence the iPod nano I own
...you do realize androids can be pretty small too, right?
Can they? I only have images of phone-sized devices in my head
well, this is a Samsung J120.... aka, a J1
it's a phone, but it's on the smaller side for modern ones.
removable battery, too - just pop the plastic back off with your fingernail, and you can replace it, if it's bad. and the sd card slot is in the back, too.
so that's still bigger than an iPod nano, but the screen's also a lot nicer a size for videos, imho
and it's not quite as huge as you might think, in practice, when it comes to putting it in your pocket
with its case, my J1 is 13.5cm high, 7cm wide, and about 1cm thick.
it's a pretty standard size, for the littler droids of a couple years back.
....it's also the kind of droid you can prolly find for about USD$20ish on ebay. if I'm not mistaken, I actually got a black one for about $12 shipped that I gave to my niece for exactly this purpose.
so it's not as sleek and tiny, no. but it's dirt cheap in comparison, and far more versatile, if ever you wanted to try going that route.
plus, as stated: zero special programs required on Windows, if you did. I'm forever appreciative of that, personally.
all right, doing a quick google search, looks like there're droid phones that're about a third of the J1's size. wow.
and there're plenty of J1s on ebay, but a lot of the least expensive that're coming up for me are either broken, or Verizon. if you do consider trying the droid thing, don't get a Verizon one. a Google account lock can be gotten around
with a bit of fruggery, but Verizon is its own special brand of frustrating crazy.
setting aside all the droid stuff.... would you like me to do a quick dig for iTunes alternatives? because unfortunately, I'm not aware of what's good to use at the moment. it's been quite a few years since I've used my iPod. (its headphones jack died, and while waiting for the replacement to come in, I ended up switching to using my PSP...)
I would very much appreciate that
Sorry I had to step away to eat lol
no worries, I went and got food too. XD
sorry I can't offer any firsthand opinions on these programs; short of installing them to try them out myself on an old iPod Touch with about zero battery capacity... I'm not sure how much use that'd even be.

/to the Googles!
just to confirm, though - you use Windows, correct? (10, I presume?)
My laptop is not compatible with Windows 11
so it's gonna stay W10 for a while
ah, I was wondering between 7 and 10. from what I've heard of 11 so far, I'm not about to touch it.
I'd been wanting to try MusicBee
but it looks like a program called MusicBee keeps making its way onto these lists, fwiw. perhaps look at a page on that one? otherwise, were it me, my instinct would be to go pull up VLC and say "hey, I hear you were holding out on me~"
man I dunno why I'm suddenly nostalgic for Winamp
haha, nice! well, I hope it goes well. let me know how it works well? if/when I get my own iPod back up, I'd like to know what to try too.
oh god WinAmp. I'm right there with you. you know, it could do iPods too?
but it had some oddness going on.... I'm pretty sure my iPod's music files got corrupted by something, but idk what did it. seemed to pop up after I'd used WinAmp, but with how filesystems work, I'm not going to jump to blaming it, so much as going "huh, that was an interesting coincidence...."
I'm also looking at that WinX MediaTrans software for filling my iPod until I replace it
the oddness, to be clear, was that I'd be playing a song, and then it suddenly became a different song.
like if the files were written to the storage, but the reference links pointed to the wrong places in the file system
which is.... honestly, I'm not at all convinced that that was a WinAmp thing, so much as a Windows or "iPod, are you going fucky and senile on me?" thing.
most likely the latter, imho
but like I said - the timing was quite coincidental.
oh! you have all the music on your iPod backed up on your comp, right?
if you did try a new music manager, and something went wrong, it wouldn't be worse than sighing and reloading everything from your comp?
yes, and all my music is also backed up on my external drive
oh, good. then do play with it! (would you like me to find you WA, to try that?)
If things go nuclear I should be fine
Naw it's good I got plenty to play with
np! I hope it works out better than expected, whatever program it is you find to do it.
i never thought about using my android tablet for my music
I've mostly been using it for drawing
VLC on android is a wonderful program; it can just scan the device and organize a menu of offerings by artist/title/etc, but I always skip that, and go right to the folder/directory explorer part, since I organize my files myself, and most of them don't even have info tags to speak of. I know what albums/folders of music I want to hear, and where I
put them, you know? and it respects that.

and I can have it save playlists and whatnot too, in-app.
