I'm not sure that this would go over well at my local renfaire, tbh
I guess if you put in the work and larp your eyeballs out some of the cast will play with you?
there is a somewhat popular tumblr (? i think) post in this vein where the story is about one of the vendors grabbing the starfleet cosplayers and flashing a comm badge and going along with the bit
like hey why are you obviously in uniform in this setting u starfleet fools
yeah, i think it probably depends on the faire itself lol
as a star trek fan i think i'd find it excellent; most non-fans possibly wouldn't care? but i can't speak from a faire worker perspective
is it any more egregious than like...people wearing fursuits at the renn faire
there are also different levels, like? the ones who are just there to work food service as a summer job barely want to be bothered coming up with an accent
wait fursuits at the renfaire??? how??? that sounds so hot
i have always had more fun talking to the creator-vendors! and i am just a pleb in normal clothes (it's hot)
The Faire here would be fine with it, several people have done similar things.
My mom has a vendor booth and I know a lot of workers and I'm p sure as long as you weren't super obnoxious it'd be fine.
yeah I just end up getting hype about something historical with other nerds
but it seems like...anything goes as long as it goes respectfully?
one of them taught me embroidery and it was the chillest day
a pot thrower taught me how to make donut jars!!

Googles donut jar
she had the mfor sale and was also throwing at the time and i was looking at them and going "HOW, ON A WHEEL,"
oh!!! WHAT how does that work
RIGHT
you do the inner opening and then the outer part and like meet them in the middle it was fascinating
It has been like 15 years since I was at a ren faire, but that sounds hilarious to me

I'm glad you came through with that image because this was all I got and I had so many questions
oh god my first thought was "oh, pinterest donut jars"
Also, now here I am watching a youtube video about throwing hollow vessels.
i think there was a hollow vessel/vintage canteen throwdown on pottery throwdown
lulabeth: I think there was but I can't find it on youtube
i passed it along to my future sister-in-law since she did lots of renfaire stuff until recently and she said she's def seen people do this lol
both showing up in full uniform and just having the badge hidden in cloaks lol
I cherish my collection of very nerdy friends
I think it sounds like a cool idea if it's ok with everyone involved. I can picture it being fun. Kinda like that Loki episode in Pompeii? (or any Dr Who episode with a historical setting, really)
I remember watching a video when the Star Wars hotel opened and two people were wearing Starfleet uniforms the whole time. I think everyone played along and thought it was funny
as long as you're not obnoxious, I'd think it wouldn't be a problem at a Ren Faire either
ooh a dr. who cosplayer at a ren faire would also fall under/fly here i think
there is a group who gets really pissed off at people doing sci-fi stuff in their historical funtimes and it's war re-enactors.
omg war re-enacters are so intense
