女性拳擊手的安全以及公平性不容談判，在男性或女性組別，紐西蘭拳擊協會都不會實行性別自我認同。

紐西蘭拳擊協會的開放組別相關規定：
－出生為女性，自我認同為男性的參加者，須經過或正在進行醫療上的性別轉換。
－出生為男性，自我認同為女性的參加者，有或沒有在青春期之後，經過或正在進行醫療上的性別轉換，皆可參加。
－不適用男性或女性組別者可參加。
－比賽方式必須由參加者所在的社群，經過紐西蘭拳擊協會同意後制定，常見如考量年齡、量級、經驗的規定也適用於此。
－參加公開組別者必須簽署責任免除聲明書，確保紐西蘭拳擊協會不為公開組別中的受傷或更嚴重狀況負責。
