Chara surprised Maul actually isn't as much of a nihilistic bastard as he first appears, anytime Faith reminds Maul of himself, Chara trolling Maul on the network which I think was the first time they really interacted.

spike and kotetsu having very candid talks was so good. i think about how their interactions evolved and it's very /chef's kiss. especially the one where spike talks about his background some to kotetsu was soooooooo good.

i think part of the difference is that despite everything, a big cornerstone of chara's way of thinking is like. compassion pushed to terrifying extremes, which is something maul struggles with. and also the fact that their entire universe is less than 0.5 gigabytes big

hanekoma: they were so good the way that kotetsu went from one of the most wary towards spike to being one of the most understanding. i really liked the conversation that sort of initiated the turnaround in their cr, when spike talked about digging himself out of his own grave

This is true. Maul's compassion is very limited and underdeveloped. And he's got a whole galaxy/canon's worth of stuff that make his world far bigger.
