my first one is that nobody in this fandom remembers what happened in canon lmfao. i keep seeing hot takes about how aelwyn didn't actually do anything wrong and adaine was somehow wrong for hating her, it's ridiculous. aelwyn kidnapped two high school girls, murdered a ship full of people and attempted to start two wars.

i don't dislike him and i think he has interesting dynamics with the rest of the cast but he's kind of there for me.

idk how else to put it than that. i mean specifically the more morally grey ones are often treated like shit in defense of the male characters who also do horrible things. gertrude, melanie, agnes and especially daisy and basira are all complicated and i get why people don't like them but also. the double standards... insane...

also i feel like there's more of a focus on trying to get a 1:1 metaphor from the series than actually examine it's themes and what it's trying to understand

i am so sick of the hot takes about why batman should kill people. it's so wild how vehemently aggressive people get about advocating for the fictional death penalty when the answer as to why batman can't stop the joker in and out of universe is literally "the joker is his most popular villain and so the writers let him stay".

Also. If you want to see Batman kill people go check out literally every superhero that's "Batman but he kills people"

which tbf a lot of comic writers also box them into those squares but they don't hate eachother and damian went on a whole monologue about how tim needs to stop waiting for permission when he's more than earned the right to decide what he wants for himself.

and even pre 52 they were learning to work together

spike fandom is so annoying 😭. if i have to hear another hot take about how spuffy is lesbian coded im gonna fucking bite someone. he's so much less interesting if you pretend he's been nice since season 2, he isn't even nice in season 7.

like even in season 2 when hes on buffy's side hes still like "oh? dru killed one of your friends??? the SLAYER??? good for her, i'm so proud"

hes in my top 3 if not my top 2 but like he sucks so bad. he's such an asshole and he's a huge creep. he's trying but also the bar is on the ground. this is, again, why i like him. because he's a weird vampire who even has moral standards they're just insane moral standards because he's a lunatic monster

the way people act about the joss in the room in the context of this fandom is also very annoying. do i like the guy? absolutely not. but people get on such a high horse about his characters and episodes written by him as if he wasn't the lead writer of the show. you can hate someone and still acknowledge they're skilled

i think buffy is better than a lot of his other works because buffy had other people to tell him no and force him to tell a more complicated story than what he wanted but you can't say he's completely talentless and also like buffy, and you can also acknowledge that buffy had a lot of people working on it besides him

the way people immediately jump to make kris super masculine makes me uncomfortable. especially because it's so often in the context of shipping them with susie and noelle

on the flipside the way people act like shipping kris with susie or noelle is like, pairing a male character up with lesbians also gets on my nerves. kris' gender is rat.

i also think fandom's obsession with proving kris innocent of all wrongdoing unironically strips them of what little autonomy they have lol. the idea that the knight is going to be pure evil is just like... you're really going into a TOBY FOX GAME with that expectation.

toby fox's writing is wasted on his audience, he could just have gaster doing peek-a-boo over and over again and they'd still be just as bamboozled every time he masterfully revealed gaster still had a face
