i've never gotten into addams family stuff but even i know that like, the way that wednesday is the only one Like That in the family is a weird choice.

it is PAINFULLY straight too, at least writing wise. especially with xavier. like he's done nothing but try to tell her she's crazy and imagining things even after he realizes she's right about his roommate being dead lol, as well as getting jealous and possessive as if she owes him anything.

wednesday herself is perfect though i love her sm

the way she was asked to play fleetwood mac for the ceremony celebrating the statue and then she melted the statue down and changed songs to play furiously as everyone ran away... and the contrast of being violent, blunt, macabre, cynical, sadistic and sour but also having an ironclad sense of justice.

i can see why my entire twitter dash lit up after the show released being like "she's just like damian wayne fr"

lol wait wednesday is the only weird addams in the show??

the rest are weird but they're like...

not addams level weird, just regular goth weirdos. so they're like "hey wednesday can you lighten up and get some friends and maybe not try to kill people."

but its weird because like. Thing and Fester and Lurch are also very much here so it's not like the regular family is normal but then they still act uncomfortable when wednesday expresses murderous or sadistic intent.

did... did the creators of the show forget how often Wednesday tried to kill her brother

and the whole family was totally cool with it???

i'm admittedly mostly familiar with the old black and white show, but while i wouldn't really call the addams sadistic (though i know wednesday is in the 90s movies that i never saw), "why can't you lighten up and make friends" feels like a weird choice

well she said "nobody tortures my brother but me"

so i assume that still happened

then it's super weird that they find her murderous tendencies off-putting :/

i think them being worried about how unhappy and angry wednesday is is like... fine? because she's clearly going through her teenage rebellion phase and is very lonely but i think you can do that without making the rest of the family be like "woah wednesday lighten up you're so odd"

idk i know they go more into it in later episodes that's just my impression thus far

agreed on all fronts.... the entire family is supposed to be weird. I mean, it's in the theme song

yeah the parents seem to not be as weird, which is weird. and the show really wants you to care about the romance which is like....but why is this even happening

jenna ortega said she hated the love triangles and played wednesdays feelings for both boys as like... wary tolerance more than anything

which, yeah, it shows.

i like tyler independently as a character but man they really did that

wednesday has more chemistry with enid and bianca by like, a lot

i will say my complaints about the addams not being weird enough is mostly lifted after the fifth episode where they're all like, present in the story again.

except fester but ik he shows up later

they're still kind of pushing wednesday as THE WEIRDEST AND DARKEST addams but pugsley does go fishing by throwing handgrenades at the pond and gomez and morticia do mention using a stretching rack to unwind so. shrug.

... I mean, I wish I had a stretching rack, my back would love it SO much 😔

i think, as someone who has not watched this series, that the addams were all about being your true self??? like wednesday being filled with Murder was fine because thats her... gestures... interest??? you cant judge a girl if her hobby is homicide u_u
