Need to get this off my chest, but a guy was commissioned to do a build on an RP sim and just rezzed out a copybotted version of my Necrotize Event build I made for Cerberus, which was a mistake because people recognised it immediately and ran into my IMs. Then he claims he downloaded it off sketchfab and the listing was deleted, so there is no record - 1/3

I'm very nice, so I gave him the benefit of a doubt, told him that okay, so if the listing is gone and you have no record, check your browser's download history, because that is guaranteed to be there and I can at least see the time stamp of when and where you downloaded the copybotted version of my build. (2/3)

But then he completely ignored my suggestion (because it's probably the most foolproof one), & told cerb & I to do our own research & find out that sketchfab freebie mesh download listings do not keep a record, & confirm that to prove his innocence. And I had to repeat myself but he kept insisting we 'do our own research'

Firstly - I haven't taken anything down off sketchfab yet, I haven't been aware it's been on there. Secondly - you don't tell the judge and jury to make an appeal, and I've been incredibly patient and gave him a solution that'll answer everything, and he ignored it.

Lastly, he's been demanding refunds from stores he was banned from. They're copiable, ffs

I really don't want to ban this guy, especially if what he's saying is true, so I put my brain power into this and asked for specific documents I know would not be deleted or removed for what ever reason. Browser Download History. That's the ticket. That's your appeal.

But he just kept telling me to look for myself and confirm that sketchfab doesn't keep history for deleted freebie listings. Why do I have to look for it myself? It is not my responsibility. My entire build I spent hours on is in his name, sold to some guy, whom of which I've told to take it down because it was a gift to a friend.

I had to go the extra mile to PROVE that it was mine. I even showed my sculpt WIP videos and everything, because the guy that hired him was skeptical...and THIS guy's appeal is 'look for yourself how this website's downloads work'???

People will literally do the most to take credit for the least amount of work they put into shit they want to claim as their own and it's the grossest. I'm sorry this person is being a shit biscuit.

apple_dismantled: Seriously. The gall of him to demand that I prove his innocence myself. I gave every suggestion I could think of that will help him and he just ignored it.

he's not taking your suggestions because he's lying. just in case that wasn't clear! what a douche

Tell him to send you the source files.

Also ban him.

I'd imagine he is lying and just didn't give a fuck about IP. That said, I generally delete my browser history pretty often so this would be a problem for some folks for valid reasons. He didn't seem to say he had no browser history in this from what you're saying, either. People just have a lot of gall sometimes.

Does the person who hired him know?

So they can try to get a refund I guess

NeoBokrug: Yeah he's banned from basically a lot of places since creators do talk and wish to protect each other. Everything's been removed privately - but he's not helping his case about trying to tell other people how 'childish' we are and how cerberus is 'lying'.

Dysfunctionality: Yeah he didn't acknowledge, he just told me 'check how sketchfab works'

The guy who hired him knows after I had to not only prove the time stamps at point of creation, but also had to send videos of me sculpting the build by hand because he doubted my claims at first.
Which is wild to me that the builder he hired can just get away with 'check out how x works yourself'

He could also send you the files he downloaded. They could certainly have markers about things. Creation dates, etc, etc.

Careful with DCMAing though, you see what happened with other stores. If the dude counter-DCMAs, then it's a lawsuit and it will eat both sides' funds. And even if you win, he won't have any funds left to pay for the costs you had.

if he is refusing, it is because he is lying and can not give you any proof.

You basically "buy" on Sketchfab, even if it's for free, no? There's surely a "list of acquired products" on there. Every store has that.

Ban and DMCA, if he is innocent then he will have to prove his source for the DMCA
Tillie: I just made an account to check on that because I thought so too and not really. There are "downloadables" where you just click a link to download, it does tell you to credit the creator and such but there is no record in your account files or even an email to confirm that you got it.

Does it also not send emails? I get emails from like every oneline store when I buy something. And I archive them all so I know what I got and when.

Tillie: nope not for the "downloadables" unless they are with a purchase
