Skimming back over The New Teen Titans, can I just say, the way Danny was kicked out was actually pretty fucked?
Like, don't get me wrong. Danny needed to leave the team (he really never should have been on the team to begin with, but that's a different discussion) but the way it went down was exceptionally shitty.
Because Danny wasn't just a teammate. The Titans were that kid's legal guardians.
I don't even want to think of how they managed that, or the details of that because that feels all kinds of not great in itself. But that is what was going on.
He was going to public school. He was living at the Tower. His parents were still running around the world being spies. And a little before he was kicked out, they had cut all contact with him. And so had the C.B.I.
Meaning when they kicked him out he was just fuckin' homeless for...I don't know, a few months at least.
So like, the Titans took this kid in probably because they recognized he wasn't in a great situation and they were his only out. They take him in as a legal ward. Eventually, realize "this was a mistake", and just kick him out without even trying to contact his parents or see if there was anyone else he could live with.
Was this shortly after Jason's death? When I went looking for some Danny and Jason stuff and for more context, I got to the part of Dick kicking Danny out and was like "jfc"
I also love that that part of his time spent on the streets, he was trying to go after the Joker alone.
YEP! Which considering Dick kicked him out for his own safety...
Good job Dick!
guess you could say it was a real... dick move /sees myself out
Adding to this! Can I just say, I love the timing?
This came, not long after Danny told Joey "This is the first time I felt like I have a home", and that the Titans felt like family. Even Gar.
Soon after Danny's only friend gets brutally murdered, he's left completely alone with that information for a week, and then his found family kicks him out of the only real home he's ever had.
how old is danny when this happens?
Like, gee, I can't imagine why the kid might have abandonment issues. It's a mystery!
Jason was about 15 when the Joker killed him soooo yeah
I'm worried about these children
"The Kid's Aren't Alright" plays in the distance
i mean I get removing him if he was an unpopular character but idk man just work in some family member willing to take him in
Like the titans could've been like hey bud normal life might be a good situation for you given how your life has been so far
it's not THAT hard to write characters out
Yeah. like I said, I get taking him off the team, but damn. the way it went down, it makes the Titans look cold and incompetent.
Like HALF of that is not bad

being like hey buddy maybe this isn't a good situation for you is fine but a) make sure something else is lined up and b ) emphasize how it's good for him
he might have still been hurt and mad but at least it's kinder and making sure he had a place to go
like he was pretty damn young, ragging on him for not being a team player with adults is like .... bro of course not, he's a fucking infant
And he did have family already established...though I don't know how good a parent Adrien Chase would have been...
even if you wanted to have him run off and be living on the streets it could have been like "we're taking you off the team, you can stay here until we have somewhere for you to go" and he could have run off on his own (although still like... adults should go after him lol)
Yeah, seriously. This is just completely callous and no empathy
They could have even had him run away from whoever was taking him in, because I could see Danny doing that
lots of ways to get a headstrong kid into a bad situation without being an asshole
"oh no he used his spy knowledge to make himself impossible to find"
It would have been really easy to find another way to go about this. But I think Marv was trying to drum up sympathy for the kid by having Dick be the fan's mouth piece but man that makes Dick look like a jack ass. It also didn't work. Everyone still hated him
yeah that usually doesn't work
at least when the fans voted to kill Jason off, the characters reacted in character to his death
(everyone shitting on Jason for being a "bad Robin" came later)
fuck! that also reminds me, in the main cannon Danny also got a shitty funeral. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he didn't even get a tombstone. His parents don't show up, and he's barely mentioned because they were also burying Joey, Raven, and Raven's mom all at the same time.
Then of course, he never get's a memorial statue, or hologram, or picture or anything. Which again, kinda makes them look like assholes.
Especially after he sacrified himself to save them.
But Terra gets all of those, which still baffles me
