I think Thad would actually put in effort, weirdly enough. Mostly because he just wants a good grade, and to have the teacher acknowledge how capable he is, but still.

Danny on the other hand is going to hate this thing. I'm tempted to actually do my idea of having it keep shocking him every time he picks it up because it's malfunctioning. Then three days in it develops a "second" more awful power.

I don't know what that will be yet but I'll come up with something he would hate.

Don't know if I'll have Danny partnered up with anyone for this, since that feels like a lot for someone else to deal with. But Thad would probably be a good one to partner up with someone. He needs the CR and he'll actually be helpful.

But if that thing is only ever malfunction and shocking him he'd probably be like "this thing clearly hates me" and becomes more and more of an absentee dad.
