Also i bought the Station Eleven book on a whim today...book store had a used copy in the window and I’ve been meaning to read it!
I already know it’s very different, and honestly, it’s TRULY WILD the ways it’s different. But also, objectively interesting from an adaptation standpoint
This is almost certainly going to be a RARE case where i think the show doesn’t simply adapt well, but actively improves the book
But I am really enjoying the read so far.
The choices of what to change in the show were honestly, EXTREMELY inspired
Kirsten is definitely a character where she’s not even really my favorite character in the show (that’s my boy Javeen) but i think she could be very compelling in a game like xim
I think she has an extremely interesting balance of community oriented, but her community. Because the world itself has shrunken so much in SE, i think it’s interesting to see how the scope and worldview of a character like Kirsten would also narrow to the people right in front of her
DOWNSIDES TO EVER PLAYING HER: I would seriously have to brush up on Shakespeare, especially Hamlet since she is a Shakesperean actor and it’s very much her WHOLE WORLD
A production of Hamlet in which she stars plays a HUGE ROLE in the narrative, I can’t get away with my dusty ass remembrance
But that’s not a bad thing
Oh man. Sabriel's canon contains... a few different Shakespeare references that she might notice and go "???" about
PROBABLY. She has spent her entire life, since she was a child reading and acting Shakespeare so I feel liek she would hone in on them LMAO
There are few textual ones in later books, but the big thing with Sabriel is that 'Abhorsen' was derived from 'Abhorson' the executioner in... Measure for Measure, I think?
A good example of one I DO NOT KNOW, but i am confident Kirsten would
Im glad to tell you that if you and I
Had apped from this post-apocalyptic story instead of the one we picked instead
You KNOW I would be Javeen and you would be Kirsten
Same dynamic LMAO right down to the gay shut in brother
Also that icon of the reunion hug is murdering me
I know, I love them a lot
can you believe they talk ONCE in the book when Kirsten is a child and dont see or speak again for 20 years
I cannot imagine a version of that story where they don’t spend a significant amount of time together. It’s wild.
The end with the “you walked me home” bit GOD
I GOT CHILLS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT
like its still a good story without that
but it's a phenomenal one with it
it elevates it into something really. REALLY strong
No it is, but the poetry of that moment and how much weird closure and open endedness at
Ugh. Station Eleven the show is such a masterpiece
which was smart....a book can get by on the power of beautiful writing. a tv show needs a strong narrative
I feel like, crazy because I never hear anyone talk about it and it's so insanely good
Maybe that's just, completed mini series. no reason to heavily campaign it into public consciousness when theres no seasons to keep getting renewed
Honestly, probably. But man.
AN APOCALYPSE NARRATIVE ABOUT ART!!!
