I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of the trope "character lives several years somewhere else and then gets de-aged back to "normal" but still remembers all the stuff they went through" but I have no idea if that's what they're even gonna do here with Jaune and I'll admit most of my dislike for that trope can be placed largely on how Star Vs did it.

I am absolutely agog at how many unique, new models this season has. Never mind the entirely new set pieces, all of these creatures are completely new models that had to be created and rigged.

Agreed! I saw somebody refer to him as kind of Halo-y in his design or something which is On Brand honestly, given RT and RVB. He was an absolute delight to watch. So expressive for such an alien-looking character.

Anyway, Season 9 continues to be a canon!RWBY jamjar because now we have the classic, "Oh I've been here awhile shenanigans" doubled up with a potential, "I'm from ahead of your canon point."

Loving it.

I love how every concept design for the Cat is just more and more scrungly.

Also fascinated that we got confirmation that Alyx was, if nothing else, indirectly responsible for the King now being a Prince. She cheated at the game, he remembered it even after re-incarnating, and now he just...cheats because there's no point in playing it fairly, particularly if his only Purpose is to Win said game.

Which, come to think of it, is an odd Purpose. You'd think a King would have a Purpose somewhere in line with "leading the people" or "looking out for his subjects" or even just "acting like Royalty" in which they don't actually do anything but everybody treats them like they're important but none of those are his actual Purpose.

It's just, "Win the Game".

...I have no idea where I'm going with this and this could just be a case of, "Don't think too hard about it," but that's a really interesting purpose for a "Leader" figure to have given Volume 8.

Oh my goooood, I just finished a re-watch of this episode and I cannot for the life of me find a gif of it but during the fight scene when WBY regain their normal heights and start kicking the Jabberwalker around, there's a shot of the Rusted Knight observing them and he just does this like, little nod of his head?

And on first watch, it comes off as the Rusted Knight being impressed with their fighting prowess or whatever but ONCE YOU KNOW WHO IT IS???

It's Jaune being like, "Yep. That's the Team RWBY I remember. Exactly as I remember."
