Unfortunately I DO gotta click goblincore because i need to know what that entails
I think those are options for everyone, they come up for me when I search for mix
Yeah and it’s not EVEN AN INTERESTING MIX
I can also get a pirate mix and spooky forest mix yesssss
I actually dont like the way Spotify’s mixes work these days, they’re like, mostly just a mix of a lot of stuff I already listen to, peppered with some similar-ish songs, and a generic title slapped on that doesn’t seem relevant in any way
idk my egg punk mix doesn't have any artists I've ever listened to
Like the algorithm feels like it’s doing very little lifting in terms of, associating new music? Or maybe it’s all user generated data now, which i dont think is doing it any favors
HUH, maybe they have different ones. These mixes are all populate by at least 50% music from my liked catalogue
Radio is usually like too...it will be heavily front loaded with stuff from my catalogue and gradually moves away with like music
it does look like the overwhelming majority of them do operate like how you described
LMTY i really miss Pandora in its early days (2007ish?) because that thing was a beast about music recommendations. I found so much good music on early pandora when it was like, actually just a big experiment in music recognition and it was REALLY good at find similar vibes in music
The Spotify algorithms have always been a pale shadow (though admittedly Spotify had a different focus from day one, since it was more ‘Netflix for music’ whereas pandora was like, high tech radio
metalheads: YEAH....I actually think that the user made playlists are more helpful for finding new stuff because there’s a lot more like, creativity and free association
I also really miss thisismyjam which was trying to be a music based social media platform but obviously dmca interfered a lot
Spotify itself has a habit of coming back to the same places a lot....like i can listen to so many disparate radio stations and it keeps coming back to a lot of the same places, and the whole point is im trying to break out of that and find NEW stuff. 100 million+ songs and you’re bringing me this one song in ten different stations?
metalheads: ohhhh i think I’ve heard of that one but i never used it myself
oh god i found so much new music through old pandora
well i guess 8tracks but that was basically 'mixtape grabbag'; would have been weirder not to find new shit on random ones
