[Horror] Witchboard (1986): What an utterly weird movie. The movie starts off obnoxious and plodding, and all the characters feel plodding and obnoxious. I was ready to really dismiss the movie, especially with how slow it can feel at the beginning despite being over the top in the acting department.
Then about a third of the way through the movie once the medium shows up the fucking thing seems to become a completely different movie. It picks up on its shit and gets it together. About 3/4s of the way through, it has at least one moment with an odd emotional core.
It's not a great looking movie, it's a low budget, and some scenes/deaths look great, and others look like shit. Which is the norm for a low budget horror flick from the 80s.
The ending swings between being pretty rocking to being too absurd. The lead actress gets to fully unload, which is great, but the rest is take it or leave it.
