Finn/Ziggy is super cute! Ziggy is like, embarrassingly the exact kind of person that I think Finn falls for really easily, so the crush was basically instantaneous (and also some other more complicated reasons).

My opinion of teen relationships narratively is they are less interesting romantically so much as they as interesting from a character development angle. There’s a transitional aspect that is kind of compelling in it’s own lifestage kind of way! teens only date for like, 6 months on average or something like that which

Both flavors of Finn/sean incoming: CANON Finn/Sean is, absolutely a nice little relationship in the game. I don’t see them being a thing that would have ever lasted even if they hadn’t been separated but i really like it as a brief, transient thing representative of this one little moment in Sean’s life (and Daniel’s)

Like, it’s very bittersweet and momentary, but i think like, the inherent like added weight of it being a First Queer Relationship gives it some heft that i think is lacking in the Sean/Cassidy relationship

Also, within the confines of this vertical slice of time, Sean and Finn have chemistry! Maybe in large part because Finn is a very charismatic character who seems like he gets along well with a lot of people (until maybe he doesn’t)

BUT YES, TLDR, it’s short and sweet and temporal, and kind of messy and I like that very much for what it is ad what it represents

OTHER NON-CANON FINN/SEAN; extremely good, would play. WILL PLAY.

Sean and Finn being two of the only teen boy characters I have actually liked i recent fiction for the exact reason of feeling very sincere and grounded in reality, and not overly concerned with being presented as like, cool or powerful or even like,

particularly special in their own narrative beyond like, being caught up in circumstances that are much bigger than them. Like, they COULD have been any other person, circumstances just railroaded them into positions of great personal responsibility (not even great responsibility for like, the world or anything)

I also like that they both have Parental abandonment narratives that are pointedly extreme normal and mundane, and appropriately complicated because of that. Missing parents is a common enough trope in fiction; “bad” or nakedly abusive parents also quite common, presumably to increase the stakes but I’m

Personally so fond of the wounds of much smaller things, that then become challenging for characters to heal or address, because it’s hard to acknowledge that the things that happened to them were that bad! whcih feels so

It’s also why i like that the fact that Martin and Karen were both introduced as parents who purposefully abandoned their children....but neither was evil. They are quite different, and the harm they caused is NOT minimized by the narrative, but neither is actually demonized by the narrative either.

The harm they cause is shown, accurately, as being real and unacceptable! But they are not presented as monsters, but instead as humans who were not equipped to be parents and made a selfish choice (that in both cases really fucked up the kid(s) they abandoned)

My Finn/FP controversial opinion is that I did not care about them until they broke up

LIKE IT WAS CUTE!! In retrospect, it’s a very adorable first GF/BF relationship

When FP is introduced she’s kind of blank canvas onto which Finn can project his own hurt feelings (and also his own internal expectations that he date a princess who needs to be saved. He’s 13, he feels extremely heartbroken, she’s a girl his own age, it’s straight forward )

I think that for most of the duration of their relationship FP is more plot tool than fully realised character....but I do think the writers were aware of this, and I think that the narrative direction of them breaking up because Finn does not consider her feelings independently of his own, was extremely smart

And it broke ground for a MUCH more compelling realtionship between them. FP got to grow into more of her own character, and Finn had to go through a long and necessary self-maturing that made for one of the stronger character arcs in the series

I'm not gonna lie I have contemplated horse boy yujin for Jake's benefit.

I also like that they become friends, but it takes TIME, and more than one failed attempt! I would have been extremely let down if they had gotten back together for a lot of reasons

I think that like, in the grand scheme of things, Finn really clicks well with people who have a calm, controlled energy. Finn can BE high energy but he has a pretty quiet, introspective side that seems pretty well nourished by people who also have that aspect to them. canon finn/sean: agree 10000%, i think their attraction is so tied up in trauma bonding that they'd be together a long time but it would be Fraught. Absolutely my canon sean relationship, just because first queer relationship has more heft than 'losing virginity', plus I like that episode a lot more as kind of a moment where Sean is kinda self-motivated and

prioritizing himself over Daniel, with disastrous results. You can make Sean kind of a perfect brother with your choices, but I like the fact that you can also harken back to the very-recent time where Sean was just a normal sixteen year old who bickered CONSTANTLY with his little brother and basically wanted noting to do with him, and I enjoy that

YEAH, i actually really enjoyed the narrative pull of that episode when you do pursue finn, it feels a lot more like an arc for sean

like, you miss out on cute moments with daniel, but

the way that episode is kind of themed around sean not being there for daniel the way daniel wants, both of them finding what they need in finn

i think it's very rich and i don't think i'd play any other way going forward

also finn is just a more central character than cassidy and having him directly involved w/sean just feels more narratively interesting
